This three-hour seminar will examine how historic signs can be identified, evaluated, protected, and restored before they become endangered. Historians, preservation planners, advocates, and restoration specialists will explore the cultural history of neon and commercial signage; methods for surveying and documenting historic signs; strategies for building public and owner support; and approaches to incorporating signs into landmark designations, historic districts, and local preservation programs. #sfneon #neonspeaks by @sfneonbook

Sneak peek at one of my favorite signs in the Light Circus Neon Museum collection in Reno, NV is Nevada Club Bucky mascot The sign was created by artist Lewis “Lew” Franklin Hymers (1892-1953). The museum isn’t open to the public yet, but it will be soon. Stay tuned! In the meantime, to learn more about Lew Hymers, check out this November 23, 2014, Reno Gazette-Journal article.

In an earlier post, I stated that Hymers designed The Riding Lesson Town House sign. That is not the case, but you'll still want to check it out when the Light Circus opens. by @sfneonbook
