2 years ago today I tried to end my own life.

2 years that have flown by and whilst im forever grateful that i didn’t, it doesn’t mean I feel “fine” now.

My therapist and I spoke about how difficult it is to communicate my feelings, and as she knew I love makeup she told me to instead try to express them through this. This is my creation. Sometimes I feel so stuck inside my own head, being pulled into my thoughts. A lot of the time I feel I’m about to unravel, like every string in my mind is one moment away from completely coming undone and this is where the inspiration for this look came from.

Unravelling: An Ode to the Anniversary

I wanted to take this time to reflect on all I’ve accomplished on my journey with my mental health. From those initial first days, to the incredible support I received from the crisis team who for months gave me endless support and helped me begin my long road of recovery. My therapist, who taught me how to cope when I’m spiralling beyond my control and who made me first believe I could love myself again. A massive part of this has been learning to talk to people about how I feel, but also finding the right people to talk to, professionals who can take those burdening thoughts on for you whilst also being trained.

Being given my diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder and ADHD has helped me with understanding so many aspects of myself, and given myself room to be kinder to me. On my bad days, I am able to have perspective into the why, and allow myself to put myself in a better space to accommodate for this.

Im grateful for everyone in my life, the endless love and reassurance I receive. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had this year. The travel, the exploration and experiences.

I’ve still got a long way to go, but I’m slowly step by step, day by day - finding my way. I’m getting there, and so can you too💛
