Not only is today the first day of autumn, it also marks one month until the paperback of MEDLOCK - my gothic thriller reworking of The Secret Garden (written as @sghartnell) - arrives on shelves! 🍂🎃📚 The brilliant @benpriordesign and the team at @littlebrownbookgroup_uk have come up with a cover that’s both reminiscent of the hardback whilst introducing a haunting new vibe. Publishing 1 October 🎃📚 Available to pre-order from @waterstones via the link in my bio. (P.S. If you can’t wait until then, I’d be overjoyed if you grabbed the hardback - it’s still in bookshops! - or you can download on ebook and audio! 🎧)

The paperback of my gothic thriller MEDLOCK (a reimagining of The Secret Garden, written under the name @sghartnell) publishes on 1 October, which of course means this gorgeous hardback edition will soon be retired. If you like to read/collect hardbacks and want to grab one before it vanishes, there should be limited copies still available in some shops/orderable via @waterstones online!

I feel like I’m very late to this - everyone seems to have read it already! - but I’m thrilled to be finally getting to it. What a wonderful book.

Yesterday was my 34th birthday, and my lovely family got me gift cards to spend on books! 🎁🎉📚 So I spent a glorious couple of hours browsing in my local Waterstones and this is what I came back with 😄😍📚 Just like last year, I’m going to have a summer of amazing reading! (Some of these I had in proofs/other editions/have read already but I can never resist a finished copy/new cover 😂)

There is a house that keeps cropping up in my books 🏠📚 Some of you may have noticed that Marwood Manor has become one of my most recurring characters. It is a grand, shadowy (and entirely fictional) house that runs through five of my standalone thrillers. Each book stands completely on its own, but Marwood links them all as the site of pivotal decisions, revelations and altercations (even if it only appears briefly!). I thought I’d put together a guide to the books it features in…

🤵‍♂️ THE NEW BOYFRIEND
Marwood is the venue for a wake after a very tense funeral (can’t say any more than this 🤐😄)

🏠 MEDLOCK (written as @sghartnell)
My retelling of The Secret Garden, where Marwood takes the place of Misselthwaite Manor. Almost the whole novel is set there… and there are secrets hidden in the garden.

🔑 THE LOCKED ATTIC
The venue for a New Year’s Eve house party that takes a dark turn.

🍽️ THE DINNER GUEST
Where a character meets an old face from his past (again, secrets 🤫).

📘 A Version of the Truth
Where a raucous student house party has major consequences.

I love that this house has followed me through my writing over the years. Who knows where it might turn up next!

MOVING HOUSE WITH BOOKS Part 2 📚📦 The first lot are in the room at the new house that will become a library and writing room. As before, this accounts for probably less than 5% of all the books that will eventually end up here 😂📚🧡
