Our lamps have been an evolving exercise on how light can move through many textures. We started with 3D printing PETG filament, and began an acrylic study through the canopy in cinder early this year.

Now, we want to explore the play of light with an opaque material, studying how light bounces off stainless steel. It’s strong and commanding, yet gentle in how light moves across it.

Recess is a familiar childhood memory 🛝

The recess lamp is a throwback to school breaks at the playground. It’s a translation of our collective nostalgia to an everyday piece; an invitation to take a midday moment to wander.

It’s designed for the in-between. Inspired by a jungle gym’s tic-tac-toe game, it’s made for curiosity:
𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙣 𝙞𝙩 𝙤𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙤𝙬𝙣
𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙨
𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙖 𝙛𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙙

The lamp goes beyond on/off. Try X/O, portrait/landscape, table lamp/wall sconce.

We wanted the recess lamp to be interactive and versatile.

Just like our midday breaks where running through the playground felt endless, we let ourselves get a little lost in the process too. We already loved how a lamp could shift a space’s mood. But what if it could shift 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 you?

We carried that same recess spirit through every sketch and render.

Selena’s body of work is inspired by everyday objects. Working with her gave us a way back into childhood wandering, while tapping into her range across different mediums.

This collaboration became as much about capturing play as it was about pushing our materials further.

We used what our canopy lamp experiments taught us about acrylic. Selena brought her strength in wood and metal.

The recess lamp is where our shared language, curiosity and play, finally took shape.

X or O?

The acrylic XO pieces were made from offcuts of the canopy lamp in cinder, cut to make the most of every sheet.

We approached every detail the way we approached recess: with curiosity.

Its look: the materials, the color, the finish, the curves and edges. Its function: the spin, the orientation, and its overall versatility.

𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙩 𝙤𝙧 𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙚 𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙥

Turn the XO acrylic pieces, or turn the lamp sideaways altogether. We designed the recess lamp to adapt to your space or mood.

We’re 1!
And we’re celebrating with the launch of sgtmags.com 🌐

Play has always been at the heart of how we make. The joy of flipping, stacking, and switching, much like our favorite childhood toys, shaped our way of designing. This translated best in our make-your-own pop-ups, where you guys built your own pieces on the spot.

Now, you can do this anytime, anywhere 🛝

What if a lamp looked like a jelly mold, or a clock made you work to tell the time? For homeware studio Sgt. Mags (@sgt.mags), everyday objects are an opportunity to experiment with form and material. Founded by Ram and Diana in 2024, the studio utilizes 3D printing to create playfully unconventional designs, giving familiar homeware a personality of their own all while keeping function at the heart of it.

A shared tool. Two distinct ways of seeing.

For Sgt. Mags (@sgt.mags) and Mineral Studios (@mineral.studios), 3D printing is more than a means of production. It’s a way to explore a design language of their own.

Sgt. Mags brings playfulness through color, curves, and character. Mineral Studios explores geometry and light, creating forms that reveal different rhythms as you move around them.

The machine builds the layers. The maker gives them character.

At MOLD, we’re making room for both the objects and the perspectives behind them.

Thank you to everyone who dropped by and supported us at this year’s @purveyrfair!

This year, we tried to be more intentional with making, to leave more room to explore. We came into the fair with that same mindset, so we stripped down our space to let you interact with the pieces freely. We hope you had as much fun with the space as we did building it! 🛝

Thank you to the @purveyr team, @marvinconanan and @saraaamartinez, for having us again and nurturing this community. And to our fellow merchants for bringing such an inspiring creative energy.

Thank you as well to @bien_alvarez @gabbiedoesthings @haroldcanilang @iggygnacho @janevillena @jelaisakara @selena.placino, our family and friends who took the time to talk about our pieces with you.

And thank you to our collaborators. @selena.placino, who we’ve worked with throughout the year to bring the recess lamp to life, the inspiration for this year’s playground theme. @fern.dy and @gabbiedoesthings who captured the photographs beautifully and helped convey the soul of each piece. And @august_creativestudio who we always love working with, and who (literally) built our space.

We’re working through answering all your DMs! Please keep the questions coming, and hope to see you again soon!
