Did you know that venous leak is responsible for 80% of erectile dysfunction?

A venous leak occurs when blood flows into the penis but does not remain there due to faulty veins. This can prevent a firm erection from being sustained. Venous leak embolization is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat erectile dysfunction caused by a venous leak.

This technique aims to obstruct the veins that allow blood to flow out of the penis prematurely, thus helping to maintain an erection. This procedure, done in an outpatient setting, is performed under sedation. A catheter is inserted into a blood vessel, usually in the groin or wrist and fluoroscopy is used to guide the catheter to the affected veins. Once the catheter is in place, small embolic agents (like coils or glue) are introduced to block the problematic veins, preventing blood from leaking out of the penis.

This procedure can be an effective treatment for erectile dysfunction caused by venous leaks.
