Three months after this, I couldn’t walk.

2024: skiing in Svalbard (Arctic), then Antarctica. I was at my peak.

A few months later I tore my ACL, plus partial PCL and MCL tears, skiing in Whistler. Then surgery.

Before that, and before becoming a dad, I had a lot of time to train. A 2:58 Olympic triathlon. A 1:45 half marathon. Being that active is what made losing it so hard.

The knee healed fast, but the recovery was hard.

In 2026 I kept rushing it. I overtrained. I had setbacks. It was mentally and emotionally exhausting.

I had to learn patience, and drop the ego.

I’m 47, with a family, a job and a dog. Training gets whatever hours are left.

So I’m doing it smarter than I did at 35. I wish I’d known back then what I know now.

I’m getting back into race shape for the 2027 season. My A-race: T100km Vancouver on Aug 15, 2027. 2km swim, 80km bike, 18km run.

I’m posting the whole road here to keep myself honest. The good weeks and the skipped ones.
