Getting off instagram (again). The last few days was a living classroom- it showed a mirror to oneself- how much of the image we have made of ourselves stands the test of such times... I remember telling a friend... "Apan kitne fattu hai, uska atleast aaj reality check mila". I observed what questions I ask while backing a movement, what questions should be asked in extending your support… and how technology has made getting simple answers easy and impossible at the same time! I experienced how communities are formed at such times, why they matter and how the presence of people you hardly know can make you feel safer in the face of threat. I realised the dramatic change in the language of expression in the generation that was leading this protest, and how incapable I felt in conversing with them. The fight is not over...there are questions not yet answered... What will happen to the CJP? What happens to the larger education system which stands in a paralysed state? What will happen to the injured students who participated in the protest? Will the state and home ministry be questioned for the inhumane force with which the protesting citizens of the country were treated? For the nails, pellet guns, tear gas and lathis used? And most importantly will the population who came out in lakhs this time, come out again with the same feeling of fraternity for the questions of dalits, adivasis, trans individuals, women, when the issue is not instagram worthy and trendy enough? Will I come out in the absence of a crowd to get invisible in? I think time will answer these questions, it always has... It has always revealed the true faces... And that's the beauty of weeks like these…when decades happen and history takes a significant shift… I have felt anger surging up my head, tears rolling down my eyes, laughter spreading across my face, fear trembling my hands and helplessness taking over my body... So much happened in such little time, that there is a need to take time and calm my senses…There is a need to sit and ruminate, take a break from instagram algorithm which has successfully hijacked both mind and emotions, and to document all these thoughts and emotions- with a by @shaam_mastani
We grew up hearing that friends don’t always stay… but you all stayed, stood stronger, and became family. Through every bit of stress, every last-minute chaos, and every smile on this day, you were the reason it all came together. ❤️ This wedding wasn’t just an event… it was us. by @shaam_mastani

There is still a lot to make sense of…to think and contemplate, and act on….. But it felt good to go back and meet familiar faces- to feel the warmth of their hugs. To be able to talk, with filled hearts to individuals whom you might have had a lot of differences with, but still feel a deeper connect filled with love, to see women with a child in their arms receiving their PhD degree, and radiant girls, who were otherwise expected to marry young and have atleast a couple of children, showing sharp middle fingers to these oppressive structures by coming out of their distant inaccessible villages to be the first degree holders of their communities and families. Maybe in that way my senior’s promise of a “life altering experience” at TISS, Hyderabad did come true. It made me understand, ally with, befriend and love people and realities which otherwise my world wouldn’t have allowed!!♥️ People who are ideal enough to read my whole rumblings on convocation can read it here- https://traversinglife2.wordpress.com/2026/03/14/what-was-this-gold-worth/ by @shaam_mastani
