The Road to Las Cruces - Ian Tyson 🦆

Does the wind still blow in New Mexico?
Silver candelabras yet shine?
Is Catherine still the queen of El Paso?
Never to be yours, never to be mine
Out of reach like the pale moon that shines
On the road to Las Cruces

On a high plateau out of Anton Chico
I see the dust of a herd movin' through
The dream and the light softly fading
The horses will not stand
They wish to go with them
Riding for Alex Carone
On the road to Las Vegas

At the line of desire, seven strands of barbed wire
To hold back the onrushing tide
Many dreams have been brought to the border
Down in the canyons
Down in the culverts
The pray for safe passage tonight
On the trail to Albuquerque

I crossed over Ratón
Stood there alone
Staring in to the heart of the night
Across that dark plain to El Paso
Where Catherine sleeps, Catherine dreams
Out of reach like the pale moon that shines
On the road to Las Cruces by @shaanp77

Long Drives - Brian Fallon
🦆

I built a room for you in the back of my mind
Where the ravenous wolves and the ghosts I know reside
You were amazing, you were always on my mind
We were secrets to keep, crows buried side-by-side

But we tasted a kiss that was sent from below
It was cool in the night, I was old as a stone
In the back of a car where they try on your heart
And suddenly show you their teeth

But you say, "I’m alright
Baby, I don’t mind
I’ll get on just fine
On them long, long drives"

I keep a letter you wrote before the devil came in the picture
It says, "I've got you now, wrapped around my finger"
And into the mystic, we were blue and outrageous
And every night, I would race the moon and fall for you

Cause you ache for a drug a that'll never be enough
You're never gonna feel like when it first picked you up
When they drove you around, bought you powder and flowers
Until the thrill was gone

But you said, "I’m alright
Baby, I don’t mind
I’ll get on just fine
On them long, long drives"

Last night I remembered being 17
I met a girl with a taste for the world and whiskey and rites of spring
Spent every night with cassettes that she liked
In a car that I borrowed a lot
I could never get her to believe

But you said, "I’m alright
Baby, I don’t mind
I’ll get on just fine
On them long, long drives"
x2

Roll on Mississippi - Charley Pride
🦆

Walkin' along, whistlin' a song
Barefoot and fancy free
A big riverboat, passin' us by
She's headed for New Orleans
There she goes
Disappearing around the bend
Roll on, Mississippi
You make me feel like a child again

Cool river breeze, like peppermint leaves
The taste of it takes me back
Chewin' on a straw, torn overalls
A cane pole and old straw hat
And muddy river
Just like a long-lost friend
Roll on, Mississippi
You make me feel like a child again

Roll on, Mississippi (roll on, Mississippi), big river, roll
You're the childhood dream I grew up on
Roll on, Mississippi (roll on, Mississippi), carry me home
Now I can see I've been away too long
Roll on (roll on), Mississippi, roll on

When the world's spinnin' 'round too fast for me
I need a place to dream
So I come to your banks, I sit in your shade
And relive the memories
Tom Sawyer
And Huckleberry Finn
Roll on, Mississippi
You make me feel like a child again

Roll on, Mississippi (roll on, Mississippi), big river, roll
You're the childhood dream I grew up on
Roll on, Mississippi (roll on, Mississippi), carry me home
I can see I've been away too long
Roll on (roll on), Mississippi, roll on by @shaanp77

My best effort (& final take) of "Heavy Foot" by Mon Rovîa, whose song I discovered earlier today.

Do you hear the sound of the bell?
Did you wish your family well?
Times ain't the same in the neighborhood
Got the parents all going through hell
Cause the guns keep flying off the shelf
Do you see the man on the street?
Just fighting for a meal to eat
You can write him off as a lunatic
But he coulda been you or me
If we didn't ever find our feet

Love me now
Hold me down
And the government's staying on a heavy foot
As they try to keep us all down
No they never gonna keep us all down

Do you see the birds in the cage
On the highway working like slaves
It's a con it's a ruse it's a gaslight
Ain't it funny how far we came
For them to go and change the name
Do you see the man on the screen?
Just a puppet but you never see the strings
Calling it a war and not a genocide
Telling us "it isn't what it seems"
Man, that's a different kind of greed

Love me now
Hold me down
And the government's staying on a heavy foot
As they try to keep us all down
No they never gonna keep us all down

Usually I make these as Stories so it's not forcing my singing upon the populace, but I can't be bothered to cut the video into 59s increments. Anyway here's Montana by Dave Stamey.

It would be pretty cool if this upload actually goes through this time.
