I started a new book earlier today and this quote resonated:

“Love is the will to extend one's self for the purpose of nurturing one's own or another's spiritual growth… Love is as love does. Love is an act of will — namely, both an intention and an action.” by @shabisou

We make choices every day. While some are small, others change the course of our lives. Inevitably, we take the wrong turn, push the wrong door, repeat the same cycles we once promised to break. We find ourselves full of regret, but will we acknowledge it? Probably not. After all, the Stoic concept of 𝘈𝘮𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘪 or “love of fate,” urges us to welcome everything with open arms and a strong heart. #noregrets.

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘞𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘵 𝘔𝘰𝘴𝘵 offers a different perspective.

This exhibition isn't about living in the past. It's an invitation to celebrate the messy, funny, and shameful moments we all share but rarely admit to. Regret, as painful as it is, serves a purpose. It signals what we value and reveals what truly matters. It's not a flaw to be erased, but something we can all learn from. Through stories and objects submitted by the public, each carrying its own baggage, we hope to look beyond tales of failure and find connection in them instead.

We invite you to contribute to this collective exhibition. If you have a story, whether serious, funny, or mundane, and an object that captures the essence of your regret, please submit it for consideration. All entries will be reviewed, and we will respond by early September. Full details and submission guidelines are available via the link in our bio.

The world has been a bit too crazy and cruel lately. Hiking in 张家界 for a few days felt like a good coping mechanism ⛰️

(little life hack from me to you: if you’re not afraid of kilometres of stairs, and actually hike your way through this beautiful national park—aka if you don’t succumb to the numerous cable cars or newly built elevators—, you won’t see a single soul and birds will only sing for you 🥰) taken in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park by @shabisou

I’ve been told to post more about my work, and I don’t think there’s a better reason to start than the release of The Hong Kong Correspondent for Monocle.

For the past three months, I’ve been reporting across the city. Let’s start with my favourite piece: a deep dive into the latest wave of Canto-pop, for which I got to interview @ccchoice, @jessica_903 and @kiri_thy. I’ve actually enjoyed this one so much that I’ve written something about it on my Substack, Yapppism (will be in your inboxes Tuesday if you’re a subscriber!) Then there is @edieswimshongkong—one of Hong Kong’s absolutely underrated gems—who probably convinced me to start my open water swimming journey. I also visited some of my favourite neighbourhoods, asking residents like @camillelcheng, @lindseyhongkong, @carson_leong from @seadon.sk and @billyli from @thekungers for their go-to recommendations (and indulging in Hong Kong’s best bolo bao, obviously). There’s another deep dive into Hong Kong’s love/hate relationship with walking and hiking, through the inauguration of the full Hong Kong Island promenade and the (recent, not-so-recent) opening of the territory’s newest country park, Robin’s Nest. I even got into some architecture and interior design, talking to the amazing team behind @thehenderson_hk.

I’m a digital journalist, and I’ll always have a profound love for digital formats and the creativity they allow. But I do have to admit—print is special. And this one particularly.

The Hong Kong Correspondent is now available at Monocle’s shops. A huge thanks to James and the Monocle team for trusting my ideas and my writing, as well as @leemaishun and @jimichiu who helped bring these articles to life so beautifully.

Now I can rest. (Just kidding, it’s Art Week) taken in Hong Kong by @shabisou

Started as a personal challenge, turned into one of my favourite trip of the year 🇰🇭

PS: the way Cambodia honours the memory of a genocide that claimed a quarter of its people is raw, quite difficult to digest, super honest and eye opening. It’s an approach that feels critically urgent right now, as another genocide takes place. Free Palestine! taken in Cambodia by @shabisou

When’s a good time to start celebrating? 🪩🧚🏽‍♀️🖋️🌺

6 months of freelancing = a few countries traveled, new friends made, more fun ideas, thousands of words written (even more read) and a little bit of poetry along the way
