Hosting a listening session @mok_coffee_studio this Thursday, Oct. 1

Inviting Paulo Rietjens aka ASTROFISIKS aka @frontalstudio to share some music for the occasion. Having inspired tons of hiphop heads - as the main driver behind the @stikstofbrussel sound - I'm looking forward to see which records inspire him !

We go from 18 - 22h and entrance is free.

Ps: this is a Listening bar first and foremost. Plenty of good bars around to yap it out 📣

The Basic Moves Of ... SHABZ

JES JES JES! …The long awaited mixtape of SHABZ aka Shabiiiiiii sees the light of the day, today!

Stefaan Kaberuka and I grew up on the same mountain in a small suburban village west of Brussels city called Itterbeek. I remember him and his brothers romping around the street while I tried to ride my skateboard.

With time Shabz grew to connect many many many dots: whether between various Brussels music scenes (cf. stikstof, sundaze, slowriders),or via his engagement in several of the city’s social, cultural and political projects.

Mr Kaberuka is not afraid of a good old Sunday after hour often held at the legendary 5th floor of a famous anti-squat building in uptown Brussels (RIP IYKYK).This is precisely where we re-connected two decades after our teen encounters.Another mountain, 10 kilometers further and we [RAP-id-lee] realised that we share the same love for downtempo beats, real deep house basslines and other club music aesthetics with a <3 and a soul. by @shabz.bx

THE RHYTHMS WE SHARE — An Intimate Musical Journey on Vinyl

We’re thrilled to welcome you back for the new season with an afternoon dedicated to the sounds, stories and movements that continue to shape the music we listen to today.

Hosted and curated by @fofah.___ and @inn3rg._ , The Rhythms We Share invites you to slow down, listen differently, and trace the journeys of rhythms across time, continents and generations with a particular attention to the profound influence of Afro-descendant cultures and their musical legacies.

Guiding us through the afternoon is Brussels-based selector @shabz.bx, whose love for music began through hip-hop before following the trails of the samples that led him across eras and borders. Without ever losing sight of his musical roots, Shabz is drawn to warm, organic sounds that evoke a sense of liberation—whether gently unfolding or building collective energy.

Throughout the session, conversation prompts will quietly weave themselves into the listening experience, inviting moments of reflection and exchange. Somewhere between a melody and a memory, we may just find one another.

So bring your mingling energy 👀

DJ Rino, Moustie and Shabz are 3 close friends whose bond grew even stronger through a shared love for slower tempos and laid-back grooves. On a mission to export the good stuff outside their own living rooms, they started Slowridin around their city and beyond.

Excerpt from the last episode of Mad Flava on @gimic.radio. The idea of the show is to share different flavors to my liking.

This one is a summer-friendly mix of afrobeat, highlife and explosive funk from W-Africa.

Short.story.long.

Some 5y ago I found myself cohousing w/ a good friend and 2 semi-strangers @benkamal__ @kubakubakuba97 . Vibes were vibed and friends became family. They introduced me to Horst (the post covid mad one) and their passion & drive inspired me to pick up an old habit: blending music together.

In '23 I ended up doing that in front of the Horst crowd in the then-called Rotunda. Memories were memorized. Afterwards I decided for a step back to take a look into the craft, starting from my own living room.

Now we back. Going full circle at The ring w/ some neckbreakers & babymakers ✌🏽 by @shabz.bx

Cruising with the top down for mix number six is the Brussels based trio, @slowriders___ . The three members DJ Rino, Moustie, and Shabz are dedicated to the down time craft, transitioning through a mass of genres and energies in this two hour trip, just how we like it.

Slowridin’ by name, slowridin’ by nature!
