“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” - a famous quote I shared with my son recently.

I was catching up with a high school classmate who was catching onto what I’ve been up to lately. Small world, as I happened to meet her cousin on this evening of the event, who happened to be the creator of @filipinup.

I shared with her, as an outdoor photographer and enthusiast, these elements naturally all go hand in hand for me. I feel best, mentally and spiritually, when I’m in my element.

Had a great night shooting an event at @greatwesternpowerco . I look forward to working on this album.

This photo was taken during sunset. I loved the lighting in this corner - the sunset created contrasts of shadows and light, one thing I love shooting in nature as well.

Kaleb and I had a 2.5 bouldering session at Ironworks. First in the training center and then in the main gym. Bouldered to the point of exhaustion! My son started club at Ironworks the other week. Prior to that, he was so frustrated that he couldn’t consistently send a V2. Today, he sent his project, his first V3 🙌🙌🙌

Attempt after attempt, getting further and further after each fall. I loved seeing the dedication and commitment, the facial expressions of focus and determination. I really have to give a shout out to the @berkeleyironworks coaches.

After Kaleb sent it, he ghosted me in the training center, lol, to tell two of his coaches in the main gym that he sent his project. Now he’s caught up to me! Perfect, because I need a climbing partner to motivate me who fits in my schedule 🤭.. V4’s we are coming for you! I have one I spotted that I want to project.

As for me, I worked on getting comfortable with slopers and sent this V3 as well. I’m also working on slower and controlled movements with intention. I also gave the kilter board a try for the first time. 😶‍🌫️

About last night 🌌

A bucket list shot a few MW seasons in the making. I’ve been wanting this shot for sometime but things never lined up - coastal fog, moon phase, or not ideal timing.

But what did it take for this shot? It wasn’t easy by any means. I was met with another hurdle but I was not going to let it get in the way - wind speeds up to 20mph with gust of winds 28 to 31 knots.

I stayed as long as I could to get the MW to lineup as I didn’t want to photoshop in the foreground. As time progressed, it became increasingly unbearable as it got colder, the gusts of winds became stronger, & stickiness and moisture formed all over me and my gear. I was drenched. Shoutout to my @mammut (light weight) jacket for protecting me in that weather ✌🏽

Sadly, I couldn’t timelapse. Trying to do long expo shots in that wind was wild. It was so strong that it knocked me around a few. I felt like someone would shove me from behind as I tried to block the wind and hold my tripod down to minimize shake.

I hadn’t been on a solo adventure in a while. It was a nice to run into 3 other photographers there. A dad and son kept me company for the most part. I was the last of the three to leave. I offered some tips and was genuinely grateful they took down some notes as they tried to get their shot. Running into other men in the field, you wonder if your advice as a woman will be taken or dismissed sometimes 🤷🏻‍♀️

And @3leggedthing, I may have got you some converted customers as they were impressed with my LEO 2.0 tripod in that wind 📷

6400 ISO 🌿 f/2.8 🌿 15 sec 🌿 16mm

Anything beyond 15 sec was nearly impossible. So I compensated with bumping my ISO but I’d say 6400 ISO is my complete max as I want to avoid any noise.

Waxing Gibbous Moon from Glacier Point 🌔

I was walking from the Geology Hut to the amphitheater when the moon looked ethereal. An Italian couple and their little children walked by me. Although I couldn’t understand fully what they were saying, I knew they were talking about how I was taking photographs of the beautiful moon. I looked over at them, and commented on the beauty of the moon. They agreed the moon was really stunning that evening.

It never fails, people looking at what I’m capturing or coming up to me with curiosity and enthusiasm when I’m taking photos around Yosemite.

I remember a tourist one spring at Bridalveil Fall said he’d pay to see what I was capturing because he “knows they have to be good.” Idk what I look like when I’m in a “flow state” with my camera. But what seems obvious is that people sense my passion and enthusiasm as a photographer. Exuberance must be seeping when I’m behind the lens. ✨
