Join us to hear our vision, brainstorm with us and expand the idea. In a city of activists and creatives, what can Austin accomplish? Can we potentially lay the groundwork for more cities to follow?

People’s Tribunals have a long history in the global south, and around the world where institutions have failed to hold accountable colonial violence.

Over the past few years we have seen an unprecedented genocide in Gaza, including targeting of a people, a culture, and the ability to rebuild, alongside forced starvation, torture, ethnic cleansing and violence against women and children at a scale we have not seen in our lifetimes. Despite the world witnessing these crimes because of reporting by the heroic journalists of Gaza, and despite investigations by the UN and all human rights agencies, there has been no justice or accountability for these criminals.

Worse, as we have seen around the world as well as here in Austin, war criminals, capitalists, the ruling class, politicians, and more are PROFITING from the genocide. IOF soldiers are starting defense companies in Israel and bringing them to the United states. Israel is expanding its Artificial Intelligence department. The tech industry is going all in to “dual-use” technology. Venture firms are investing big in Israel, who has proven that killing thousands of Palestinian children can be done with no consequences. Politicians who have been cowardly or complicit have moved on.

Here in Austin, we have a plethora of local actors who are complicit in the genocide, profiting from the genocide, or have been complicit in normalizing genocide in spaces where they have influence.

Where institutions fail, the people prevail. How can we, the people, hold these people accountable? How do we keep these powerful institutions from rewriting history, from escaping consequences and most of all: from making money from misery?

What would a symbolic people’s tribunal mean? What would it accomplish? What is it not? by @shadetreader

@shrishtii.khanna the fight for lgbtqia+ equality must stand with the fight for palestinian freedom. there is no queer liberation under occupation and genocide. pinkwashing turns pride into propaganda, branding military occupation as progressive while palestinian queer activists continue to organize under siege. solidarity is intersectional, anti-colonial, and grounded in the understanding that sexuality, race, militarism, and colonial power are interconnected.

Get @reshare_app • @jasonchumusic On November 20, 1969, American Natives took back Alcatraz. For 19 months, they held the island as a Native homeland, establishing a school, health clinic, and radio station. The Occupation of Alcatraz served as a rallying point for indigenous activism, with 400 Indians from around the country flocking to the island under the banner of the Indians of All Tribes.

They also attracted supporters and allies from other communities. Japanese and Chinese American sympathizers boated to the island, bringing fuel, food, and water with them to help the settlement survive the winter and government attempts to shut off their water, electricity, and communications.
