Godspeed David Lynch (1946-2025), rest in peace amidst Blue cosmic ocean waves. Seems like the last year I've only been on social media to post obituaries of legendary creators. Everyone who has seen a Lynch film will see the world with different eyes, the surreal quality of life, the hidden dark forces beneath society, the voyeurism of humanity, entire volumes have been written about this unique film director.

He created his own idiosyncratic universe on screen, thought provoking and immersive with great attention to sound design and music. Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Lost Highway, Wild at Heart are just a few classics that immortalise this creative spirit who left the physical plane for pastures blue. taken in London, Unιted Kingdom by @shadowsnake_official

Tribute to Pim de La Parra.
Godspeed Pim, rest in peace. For those who want to know more about Pim's illustrious career as a film director and producer: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pim_de_la_Parra

The last time we met was in 2019 when I was shooting a film in Suriname, and he was as vibrant as ever, our conversations ranging from literature and cinema, to the mystical, or sentiments of the street, to books or events that triggered his imagination to write the next film or treatise. He was always working, his mind always learning and sharing.

It was a privilege to know him personally and to be endorsed by him as a film director. He was full of vitality, joy and passion for new projects he was writing and planning. I could listen all day to his anecdotes about involvng Scorcese and Bernard Hermann in his film, buying an old Dakota plane to shoot a film and his vibrant lifestyle in 70s Amsterdam and Paramaribo. At the height of his fame and power he was considered one of the high priests of 1960s-1970s culture in The Netherlands. His will to keep creating films even after the funding became difficult, his guerilla film productions became a training ground for many successful directors.

When someone creates that oeuvre of work, their spirit never dies. What I will remember most is his fearless eyes, full of curiousity for the world and finding the beauty in stories, characters and places. Thanks Pim, for all the energy you've poured into your passion for cinema and for showing us how to live in the moment.

Your inspiration lives on. Dez taken in London, Unιted Kingdom by @shadowsnake_official

Best new year wishes to all. May your vision, vitality and path be as bright as fire from the Sun, your peace and resolve immovable as the mountain and earth, your courage, strength and will as the steel of a sword, your mind, spirit and body as free flowing as water, your patience and love as the trees that grow into wood and entire forests.
But most of all, music is the best daily medicine, so play and sing like the birds that fly free.

Saw The Batman, 2 days ago. Was impressed, pleasantly surprised, as I expected at least gritty noir visuals, and a weak story as usual. But it's excellent work, much more in the vein of Batman detective, with visual references to Frank Miller's Dark Knight and Batman Year One/Daredevil (Illustrated by Mazzucchelli). More crime noir (Cf. The French Connection, The Wire) and horror (7, Silence of the Lambs) than actual super hero material, which by now everone's bored with. This was excellent film directing, and writing, very balanced, good use of orphan and trauma themes, how violence or the wrong examples can infect society, resulting in terrible consequences. A very menacing world, realistically sketched, no cheesy humour. Worth seeing on the big screen.

[Shipibo bead art, from Peru]. 19 years ago Shadowsnake Films was founded (2001). The serpent unfortunately has a negative connotation for many, but the symbolism and myths behind this mysterious and mystical creature is much more complex and best explained in Jeremy Narby's book, The Cosmic Serpent. #snakes #productioncompany #shipibo #icaros #serpent #cosmic #cosmicconsciousness taken in London, United Kingdom by @shadowsnake_official

A happy, peaceful and creative new year (and decade) to you all.
Gratitude for all good things of the past and present, whilst eliminating the negative, and staying alert to more positive dynamics ahead. [Huichol art necklace, aka Peyote art. A gift from my creative brother Mano in Mexico, for being an adjudant or Hombre del Fuego]

Last night premiere of Anna and the Apocalypse, edited by our good friend Mark Hermida. Congratulations. It's important that this weekend as many people as possible see it, because on Monday morning the exhibitors (cinema owners) and distributors usually sit down to decide on how many screens will be allocated to this film. Which started as an independent project and got picked up by MGM/Orion. So if this is your genre, go and see it asap.
