From 21,000 feet above the Earth to nearly 300 metres beneath the ocean.

Samantha Schwann, has quite an extraordinary story. A technical diving instructor at just 21, an accomplished skydiver with over 500 jumps, and now an underwater photographic artist and ocean explorer pushing the boundaries of how we study our oceans.

We talk about her early encounters with sixgill sharks, the realities of shark conservation, her fascinating experiments with underwater acoustics, and her work piloting ROVs to explore and document marine life at depths most divers will never reach.

We also get into the uncomfortable questions about shark conservation, the effectiveness of underwater imagery, and how much we still don't understand about the ocean.

A fascinating conversation about exploration, technology, sharks, and a shared passion for both the sky and the sea.

Reaching Episode 50 feels like a significant milestone, and I'm very happy to mark it with British diving journalist, author and underwater photographer John Bantin.

John has spent decades observing and documenting the diving world, which made this an opportunity to look beyond individual dives and talk about how the industry itself has changed.

We discuss the evolution of recreational diving, journalism, underwater photography, equipment, training, safety and social media, as well as some harder questions around certification versus competence, the independence of equipment reviews, accident reporting and whether our industry always learns from its mistakes.

It's an open and candid conversation with someone who has watched the modern diving industry evolve from a very unique perspective.

And on a personal note, thank you to every guest who has trusted me with their story, and to everyone who has listened, watched, shared or supported the podcast over these first 50 episodes.
