Our family lost its leader — what I call, the godfather of the entire Shah family. My uncle’s life and career spanned three continents and forever changed the trajectory of our family. He was the foundation on which so many of our opportunities were built. From east Africa to the UK, and eventually to the United States, he carried his family with him, including my parents— not just physically, but in spirit, in guidance, and in care. He looked after everyone, no matter where in the world we were.

He was bold, fierce, and incredibly intelligent — the very definition of a leader. When he called, you answered. When he asked you to do something, you did it, not out of obligation, but out of deep respect. He commanded respect not through fear, but through the strength of his presence and the way he lived his life. He was a man who led by example, showing every one of us what hard work, discipline, and integrity truly mean.

The last time I saw him was just a few months ago. I’ll never forget that moment — he held in his hands the book that had been written about him, and he was able to sign it. Watching him do that was deeply moving. It felt like a full circle moment — a man who had built his life from humble beginnings now being honored in a way that captured everything he had achieved and everything he stood for.

He exemplified what the American dream truly is. Through sheer hard work, grit, and relentless hustle, he not only built his own success but created a foundation for generations of our family to thrive. His sacrifices and his determination are the reasons so many of us have the opportunities we do today.

He checked in on everyone — cousins, nieces, nephews, family friends — he never forgot anyone. The countless people I’ve spoken to in the past few days all share the same sentiment: that he made them feel seen, supported, and inspired. He left a mark on everyone he met.

We all just wanted to make him proud — and I know we still do. His voice, his lessons, and his example will continue to guide us in everything we do.

Rest in peace, Bapa. Your strength, your story, and your spirit will live on in all of us. ❤️❤️❤️

I went to the 5:30 AM session at @crunch.allen and had a great surprise - Marco 'El Jefe' was leading the class! His coaching made the HIIT workout so rewarding.
