What’s the ideal size of the nasal tip?

My answer might surprise you. Look into your eyes.

One of the things I love about facial aesthetics is comparative anatomy, understanding how different parts of your face relate to one another.

Surgeons traditionally compare the width of the nasal base with the distance between the eyes. But there’s another fascinating relationship that gets much less attention: the width of the iris and the visible width of your nasal tip.

At my recent AAFPRS webinar, I discussed something I’ve spent years thinking about: How do you make a nasal tip smaller and more defined WITHOUT simply projecting it farther?

It’s not just about narrowing cartilage. It’s about dome size, orientation, positioning, skin thickness, soft-tissue volume, and how everything redrapes over a changing three-dimensional structure. And there’s actually some fascinating mathematics behind this.

For my fellow math enthusiasts, we’re entering the world of differential geometry. The mathematics of curves, surfaces, and three-dimensional shapes.

Thank you to the @aafprs for inviting me as an expert in facial plastic surgery again! Super thankful to have presented to surgeons all around the world. taken in Anil Shah MD by @shahaesthetics

I’ve been published in medical journals, but finding myself in someone’s memoir? That’s a first! 📖

In her new book, Selling in a Stiletto, @mrs.nora.g shares her journey through life, success, and a little rhinoplasty along the way.

As surgeons, we see the before and after. But we rarely get to read the story from the other side of the operating table.

And sometimes, those words mean more than any before-and-after photograph ever could.

Nora, congratulations on your book and everything you’ve accomplished! I love seeing your success in life. And yes I still love your nose!! ❤️

Thanks for sharing your story so openly. Then again, I’m not sure being shy has ever been your thing!

Super honored to have won the 2026 Skin Anarchy Top Picks Beauty Award for Top Surgeon.

True aesthetic excellence is not just about changing how someone looks. It is about preserving natural harmony and advancing precise techniques. A patient shouldn’t get look better, they should function better.

Thank you to Skin Anarchy for this incredible recognition. taken in Anil Shah MD by @shahaesthetics

The Swan has reached its 20 year conclusion, and in many ways, it was definitely ahead of its time, though it was also very controversial when it first aired.

With the new documentary out, here is my take on it:

1. Contestants over Patients: The participants were treated far too much like contestants rather than actual patients.

2. Questionable Support Staff: Some of the team members, like the life coach, trainer, and even some of the dental work, seemed less qualified, and the outcomes reflected that.

3. Outdated Techniques and Experience: Plastic surgery in 2003 hadn’t evolved yet, and results weren’t durable. This was clear in the 20 year follow up. While patients looked great for the cameras initially, the techniques simply weren’t built to last, though those surgeons have since evolved and gone on to do great things.

4. Why It Matters to Me: This is especially relevant right now, as I might be chosen for a similar show soon.

The biggest takeaway? As a surgeon, you must always remember that no matter the setting, you are treating a patient, not a contestant. At the end of the day, they deserve your full respect and dignity.

Last skincare prep before my big day ✔️ after two sessions of microneedling and cool peel laser, I went in to @shahaesthetics last week for my final treatment and got their hydrafacial (with micro gold infusions & some red light therapy) and a little Botox in the forehead

My skin is something I've struggled on and off with over the years, especially with hormonal acne along my jawline and neck and I can truly say this is the healthiest it's ever looked after these last few visits.

I want you to meet one of my lovely patients who had mild sleep apnea and wanted to rejuvenate her face.

She did not see me for sleep apnea. She saw me because she wanted to look better. But this is one of the side benefits that not all, but many of my patients experience afterwards. They function better as a human and that’s because the anatomy has been changed.

This is one of the procedures that I do that no one else does in the world until I introduced it at the American Academy Official Plastic Surgery in 2026. taken in Anil Shah MD by @shahaesthetics

There are lots of questions about GLP-1s right now. Even though they have been on the market for decades, there is a side effect you need to know about: NAION. It can affect vision in a small percentage of patients. It’s not fully established, but it is important to know what to look out for if you are taking this or planning to.
I love discussing the nuances of GLP-1s with established reporters, like @henadoba at NewsNation, who are always so thorough. taken in Anil Shah MD by @shahaesthetics

This is pretty exciting.. A major network has asked me to help find a special patient who is interested in a facial transformation for an upcoming project!

These opportunities are extraordinarily rare, and the right candidate could have the chance to undergo an amazing transformation while sharing their journey.

We’re looking for someone with a great personality who is ready for a change!

Interested? Comment below or DM us privately and we’ll reach out with more details. taken in Anil Shah MD by @shahaesthetics

One of my proudest things is a new technique I developed for how I release the hyoid. It is the only technique that I know of that actually helps patients function better, aside from making them look better.

Let’s get this straight: most of my patients see me because they want to look better, and I believe this does the best job at that.

However, a side benefit I am noticing is that my patients get better deep sleep, which is also known as stage 3 sleep. This is the most important sleep phase, providing the restorative sleep that helps them function better.

Ultimately, my mission is not just to make patients look better, but to help them function better as human beings. taken in Anil Shah MD by @shahaesthetics

Theme of the day in clinic:
spontaneous compliments after rhinoplasty.

There’s levels to it. Looking natural is kind of the baseline. But did you know there’s another level - spontaneous compliments. Some person randomly goes up to you and says “I love your nose.” To take a body part that makes you insecure and then make it get this. Wow!!
