TALK TO STRANGERS & GO TO EVENTS BY YOURSELF!!

I use partiful & luma to find different events that I like (I’ve gone to pottery classes, tech parties, summer discos, etc).

They have become THE easiest way to meet people, get outside my comfort zone, and be forced to be social (+ practice my conversation skills). I have so many cool friends w/ different backgrounds now & sm more confidence. EVERYONE SHOULD BE DOING THIS!!

is it possible to move to a new city, meet 200 strangers, AND host an event for 500 people… in one month?

i’m shailee. i just moved to nyc, didn’t know anyone, and had one goal: find my community.

so i said yes to everything. coffee chats. random events. talking to strangers.

those strangers became friends. then cohosts.

and last week? we hosted @foundersontap with OVER 500 RSVPS. founders, creators, the most ambitious people in nyc at a bar. all in the room to learn, drink, and most of all have fun.

one month. AND IT WAS ALL SO WORTH IT.

Did you know there’s a bar in nyc where founders and builders come together to learn, drink, & have fun...? All on a Monday night.

We just launched our first Founders on Tap event with @zauey.talks this week.

If you don’t know Claire…she’s a Partner at Lightspeed, Forbes 30 Under 30 in VC, and built a 400K+ audience breaking down AI, startups, and tech.

Our favorite takeaway was her content framework: educational, aspirational, entertaining, emotional. the best posts hit more than one.

And her bigger point: narrative is part of a founder’s job now. Content builds trust before you ever meet someone.

The night was buzzing with ambitious YET fun energy. There was such exciting chatter of everyone’s goals + passions.

simple guide to master networking pt 2: how to make the most out of every event you go to ⬇️

1. Make an effort to talk to AT LEAST 2 people you’ve never met. This helps you put yourself out there & meet people who really align with your goals. Especially, if you are going to events you’re super excited about, the people you meet there will leave you feeling so inspired!!

2. Follow up with every person. The power of following up is UNREAL. Through doing this, you will begin the start of a very meaningful connection, where you can look to the other person as a friend or mentor. These people will be the base of the community you build around you.

Day 30 of meeting 100 strangers in 30 days :)

i ended up having 200 conversations with strangers in the last 30 days of moving to a new city. dinner parties, fitness classes, conferences with extremely ambitious and fun people. this is how:

1. i scoured the internet for events that sounded SUPER interesting to me.

2. attended the events: often times i would awkwardly join existing conversations but people would naturally open their body language to talk to me. AND it was SOOO fun. everyone had this excitement to talk + so many different passions that i have been introduced to. i followed up with so many of these people & each friend date led to developing beautiful relationships. (will make a video on how to master networking next).

3. through meeting these new people + documenting my journey, i got extended so many other different invites to dream events where i met people living my incredible lives. i feel so much more in touch with bulding a life that is going to make me extremely successful.

Being able to network + put yourself out there is probably one of the greatest skills to help you grow professionally AND socially.

one of the biggest lessons ive learned since moving to nyc is that discomfort is the best thing you can encounter.

it means that you are growing, not stagnant or stuck.

to give some context: it was always my dream to live in nyc. & because of that, i thought it would be immediately easy to move.

but first week after i landed i felt these eerie moments of discomfort, this homesickness. i missed my family & my friends so much. but i took that weird feeling as motivation to do more.

and as the weeks passed, i pushed myself to say yes to everything, meet some incredible people, and end up in rooms i never thought would be possible 🥹

so if you are someone who feels lost in your 20s: take that risk, move to a new city, meet cool ppl & try new things.

it’s the only way you will find growth & excitement.
