Thank you so much @shaina.hammond @hoofprintvaulting @nationvalleyranch for such an awesome weekend last weekend!!!

We hosted our second annual Development vaulting show/clinic. We were so grateful to Shaina for coming back out, for the coaching, feedback, positivity and coach development. We are so unbelievably grateful!

To all of our phenomenal volunteers and parents who made the weekend happen behind the scenes. Thank you so much.

And a massive thank you to @laila.ceb who is the queen of all things technology and logistics and without whom none of our vaulting adventures would be possible!

And last, but certainly not least a massive thank you to our horses Marble, Addi and Nombus who carried not only our clubs vaulters but also some of our friends from Nation Valley Ranch ❤️

Our hearts are so full! Stay tuned for more photos from the wonderful @barrmarketing who joined us for the show morning!

Why would we want put our horses in an environment that might stress them out? Well, a few reasons ⬇️

A) when a horse is feeling stressed or scared we want them to look to the lunger for guidance, practicing this in a controlled environment helps the horse know it can trust the lunger and athletes in future situations that might feel scary to them

B) safety!! A horse could be absolutely nailing it in practice but loses it in new environments. Testing this out before hand helps us know if a horse is ready to compete and if it’s safe for the horse and athletes.

C) control over “scary” things. If they don’t like clapping we can clap quieter and slower until they realize it’s not dangerous. If loud music makes it hard for them to focus we can start with it super low and progressively increase the volume as the horse gets more comfortable.

🌟All of this is not to create anxiety for the horse but to introduce things slowly so they’re better prepared for the future, and to do so at their own pace

It’s been almost a year and a half since I had to have 2 small operations on my lower spine, and my handstands and swings took a huge hit. For almost a year afterwards I couldn’t even do a handstand against a wall for 20 seconds without pain. I considered stopping vaulting completely because neither I or the doctors knew if it would be possible to train at a high level again. I decided I would go through the recovery process with no expectations. I went to physical therapy for months. I had to rebuild my core, take it sooooo slow, and be so incredibly patient with my body while it re learned how to do things. I can’t tell you how many times I had to stop a training or a workout because my body knew it was hurting not helping. At times I felt like it made me a “lazy” athlete. The past 6 months I’ve finally felt like my swings and handstands are progressing back in the right direction and it’s so exciting!
If you’re feeling frustrated with an injury right now, the small exercises are helping, modifying moves, routines, and exercises is helping, the more patient you are, the easier time your body will have healing 🤍 by @shaina.hammond
