Chetana isn't just Mumbai's favourite thali spot in Fort. It's founded by my great grandfather (Pitaji) ,Sudhakar Dikshit ,he started it right before Independence, as a bookstore and cafe for artists and thinkers to gather. The book centre went on to become known worldwide for its philosophy collection, he wrote and edited works himself, including I Am That.

Over the years it grew into more :the craft centre with handlooms and textiles, art on the walls that's still there today, all kept alive by my Nani, Chhaya Arya, who has run Chetana for years now.

My favourite chapter of it though is much smaller. First year of college, I'd come straight to Chetana after class, eat with Nani, sit in the craft centre and mostly just listen to her talk.

Going back with Mom this time, seeing it through her eyes and mine, I don't think I've ever felt prouder of where I come from.
