Had a young boy hit on me and the whole night that every time i walked passed him he told me that i looked amazing and ended it off with a “ma’am” 😂😂

The commission 🖤
A very special commission, created for a woman with an incredibly layered mind, strong presence and a beautiful softness to her. I was told from the beginning that she is incredibly individual and that this piece needed to reflect that something unconventional, expressive and completely her own.

A first for me
This was actually my first abstract painting. I’ve painted other commissions before, but abstract work has never really been my territory, which made this one both exciting and slightly terrifying.

There was no familiar reference to hide behind and no “correct” final image I was trying to reach. I had to trust movement, colour, instinct and feeling and allow things to happen that I probably wouldn’t normally have planned.

It pushed me far outside of my comfort zone, which I think was exactly what this painting needed.

The colours
Nothing here was chosen just because it looked pretty. The green and gold were inspired by her favourite colours, representing healing, growth and wisdom.

The red carries some of the pain that inevitably comes with life, while the orange represents power, energy and the fire that keeps us moving through it.

Every colour was chosen with intention, so although the painting is abstract, there is meaning woven into every part of it.

The gold
There are actually four different golds hidden throughout this piece. Depending on the light and the time of day, different parts catch and disappear again. It means the painting never really looks exactly the same

The landscape
There are little suggestions of landscapes woven into the abstraction, mountains, earth, water, greenery. She’s a runner and deeply connected to nature, so I wanted parts of the painting to feel like places she might have moved through, rather than painting a literal landscape.

The Soul
There’s a spiritual element running through this piece too. The centre is meant to represent the soul, fluid, constantly moving, never completely fixed or contained. Throughout the painting, everything seems to flow into and out of something else, almost like energy moving between the physical and the unseen.
