"The End of Performance"

A constructed identity reaches its limit. The figure collapses under the weight of its own repetition.
Here the clown, once a form of control, is no longer sustainable: the persona dissolves into fragments that resist narrative and refuse reconstruction. What surfaces is not a new form, but an exposed condition: unstable, uncontained, real.
That's because, at some point, the structure of the persona gives in. Not suddenly, but through small fractures that can no longer be contained.

What remains are fragments, exposed and unresolved. Not seeking repair, not seeking coherence, only existing beyond the need to perform.

This work is a part of the "Beyond Identity" series, and it is intended as an invitation to a deeper analysis of our social structures and masks. Are the masks we have always worn still serving a purpose? Why do we wear them, and for how long are they actually useful?

"Subsurface Identity - The Clown, Unfolding" is part of Beyond Identity series.

At first I painted Chaos, layer over layer. But then the layers began to thin. It’s something trying to come through.

I didn’t paint a face. I kept covering it and it kept coming back.
Layer after layer,
something underneath refused to disappear.
Not clean, not clear...but present.
Layers here shift the surface, but don’t resolve it.
The clown remains incomplete.

This work can be read as a parallel to how identity forms: through layers, masks, and partial concealments. When these layers are pushed or disrupted, something more underlying begins to emerge, often inconsistent with the image that is presented outwardly.
The figure that appears is unstable, almost tragicomic. It suggests a face that performs, while simultaneously exposing the gap between what is shown and what is actually felt.

Mixed media on recycled cotton canvas.
80x100 cm.
Only advanced natural fixatives.

"Joy as Ornament (Clown Earring)"

On the edge of the body, an earring shaped like a smiling clown interrupts the silence: it's small, external, almost ornamental, but impossible to ignore.

This work is meant to convey the tension between visibility and concealment, where identity leaks through the smallest detail.
What is suppressed in expression does not disappear --> it shifts position.

This work is part of "Beyond Identity" collection.

Part of "Signals without Output" series.

“Signals Without Output” is a series of abstract works tracing the remnants of communication that never fully arrives. Tribal and ancestral marks emerge like fragments of an ancient language—raw, instinctive, and unresolved. These gestures carry emotional intensity that has no direct form of expression, existing instead as silent transmissions, internal echoes, and forgotten codes.

1. Complex adaptability (SOLD OUT)
2. Call for freedom
3. Self-hug , new version

Perhaps the first clowns were found in ancient Egypt, around 2400 b.c.

I'm fascinated by how the "Zanni" (italian term from the dialectal way to say "Gianni" - historically used for servant figures: a crafty, instinct-driven trickster rooted in hunger and survival) evolved during history...and still the tension between the Whiteface clown and the Auguste reflects the conflict between imposed identity and emotional chaos.
That's why I'm interested in clowns and their way of representing everyone of us in the society.

I paint clowns because they don’t pretend to be whole.
They hold the fracture in plain sight.
Identity, to me, isn’t a fixed form: it’s a negotiation.

A sequence of performed gestures, inherited masks, learned responses.
What we show is often a rehearsed surface;
what we are keeps shifting underneath.
These works move through that tension, between authenticity and adaptation...

The smile becomes structure and the mask becomes language.
And somewhere in the repetition of roles, the self dissolves, reassembles, and resists definition.

"Identity. Unworn"

The show is not over yet.
But the clown ran away. Only a shoe and the earring remain.
The clown no longer needed the costume, nor the identity that came with it.
Sometimes freedom begins the moment we stop performing who we are expected to be.

Part of "Beyond Identity" collection.
The painting is available & is included in my recycled materials and natural fixatives project.

"The Bumped Patterns / Gli Schemi Urtati" from series "Beyond identity" was part of a beautiful exhibition in Milano 20/02-03/03

The story behind it:

This work unfolds as a painterly meditation on early trauma of migration and fragmentation of identity. Divergent cultural, linguistic, religious and emotional stimuli accumulate on the canvas, without settling into a stable center.
It's about fragmentation, and this one here is not absence, it is existence itself: immigrant child's subjectivity is in continuous formation, it is resilient, yet unsettled.
The many collisions, layers and interruptions represent the mental space where the immigrant child has to negotiate incompatible worlds.
The painting preserves the traces of its making: the canvas becomes both a sediment of trauma and a space for ongoing possibilities.

Mixed Media on canvas. Only advanced natural fixatives.

The Shape of a Self

This work investigates the fractured nature of identity and the instability of perception. The figure appears assembled from disparate visual fragments.
Through the archetype of the clown, a figure both universal and deeply human, the work reflects on the masks we adopt to navigate social reality...The self emerges not as a fixed entity, but as a temporary composition of memories, roles and projections.
