On July 25, the New Eyes Collective, an organization of Black cultural workers continuing the Black radical tradition of criticism, journalism, archiving, and collective resource-sharing, will host New Eyes on Greg Tate: Flyboy in the Buttermilk Revisited, an interactive series of live discussions centering a seminal 1992 essay collection from Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Greg Tate. Link in bio to RSVP.Flyboy in the Buttermilk, which received a special rerelease last month via Questlove’s publishing imprint AUWA Books, explores Blackness at the intersection of gender, politics, sexuality, and pop culture. As part of the event, which is hosted in partnership with the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA), a limited number of free copies will be available for pickup on a first-come, first-served basis. Regina Hall has stealthily become one of the defining ensemble actors of Black studio films. She has played both the straight woman and the comic relief in films like 'The Best Man' and 'Girls Trip.' For years, critics treated this as charm rather than craft. The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off in six weeks. To mark the moment, we’re producing a special print issue—launched with a public World Cup Salon at The Africa Center in New York on Wednesday, June 10. Panels start 6 p.m. Free and open to all. While the first two decades of the 2000s were consumed by arguments over humanistic representations of Muslims on-screen, recently, attitudes are shifting away from the need to portray “good” Muslims — and toward embracing flawed characters, @shamirathefirst writes for Issue 04. Ramy Youssef broke ground in 2019 with ‘Ramy,’ followed by ‘Mo’ along with his collaborator Mo Amer. Join us Friday, February 20, for the fourth annual 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘉𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘴 reading series. Framed by @veralistcenter s 2025–2027 Focus Theme, Matter of Intelligence, the program reflects on creative and urgent publishing platforms situated within institutions of higher learning, focusing on “intelligence” as knowledge production and the apparatuses that generate it.This program brings together 20 newspapers, magazines, digital publications, and journals run by faculty, students, and staff from across the university.
