My Grandpa, Robert Kay, passed new years day at the age of 93 and let me tell you how amazing he was: an engineer, he started at Boeing and then settled into a 28 year career at IBM where he, among many things, lead the development of portable computers. He was a pilot in the airforce and then continued piloting personal aircraft (one amphibious) for many years, flying the family on trips around the country (before I was born) and even learned to fly a helicopter for the first time at the age of 90. He designed the house my mom grew up in, built a race car, a hoover board, and many other things I'm sure. Once retiring to Florida, he and my grandma, his wife of nearly 70 years, restored an old Ketch sailboat and traveled widely with it for many years. He was humble, funny, stern, sly, and warm. How I wish I'd had more time to hear all of his stories. by @shan_tonsy

After a long struggle with cancer, my brother Jason passed away somewhat unexpectedly this past weekend.  Friday night I was listening to him rant about how he loves the original Octonauts but isn't a fan of Octonauts Above and Beyond (his son was watching in the next room) and then Saturday around noon I was standing at his bedside with his family watching him take his last breaths.

He was probably the kindest man I know and his family meant more to him than anything.  I spent my childhood looking up to him and tagging along everywhere he went (which he did not appreciate). But he was always looking out for me and we grew closer as we grew older.

Jason was a joker, a teaser, goofy, stubborn, reserved, helpful, caring, giving, thoughtful, feeling, and had an open heart for all

The kind of man, that led the kind of life, that makes you stop and wonder 'why him?'

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts as well as the donations to his family which I am honestly overwhelmed by.  It will be a hard path for all who knew him to walk as we cope with his absence but we have eachother. by @shan_tonsy

Where to begin... unfortunately this is not going to be a good year for my family.  We received the worst news possible in January:  my brother will not be winning in his fight with cancer.  39 years old, married with a young son and father figure to 2 teenage foster girls.  All are trying to make the most of the time we have left.  Which included a suprise birthday party in February, and a family road trip to the Grand Canyon (cut short by an emergency spinal surgery that has left him with restricted mobility).  He is still willfully determined to fight this but is declining quicker than hoped.  If you can imagine everything he is going through mentally and physically, as well as the family, then I am asking again for help as he enters hospice.
I've added a link to a gofundme in my profile and for those who know him or would like to know more about what he's going through, his wife has created a caring bridge page with updates.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your love and support right now.

I feel uneasy sharing all this here but I do it hoping to make a difference for him and his family ❤️

We are forever grateful by @shan_tonsy

For the many of you who don't know my Brother has been battling cancer for the past few years and things have recently gone downhill rapidly. He is married with a 2 year old son in addition to being legal guardian for 2 teenage foster girls. I'm usually a very private person on social media but am sharing this now in hopes that even though you may not know him, as friends you may consider contributing to his family for my sake. I've put a link to a gofundme I created in my profile and I hope you will consider supporting his family in any amount or even swing by the store to shop and help me pay for regular trips back to help with the family and his care.
My love to you all ❤️ by @shan_tonsy
