Today my father, Derrick W. Wilson, would have been 73 years old. February 22nd, 2026 is a day I will never forget.

Daddy honestly, things emotionally and mentally have been extremely hard since you’ve been called home. I’ve always been the one to figure things out but this time, I have no idea what’s going on. Your last words to me were, “She-She, you know what to do!!” Today, I will carry you in my spirit. I will carry those words even when I’m confused. I will continue to lean on God for direction and make you and my mommy proud.

Captain, my siblings as well as myself and will dance with you all day.

Today, as I celebrate my birthday, I want to also celebrate my parents. It’s a little different entering this chapter without my father but one thing for sure, we’re loving each other ALWAYS.

To my Daddy: These past 15 days has been a struggle. I thank you for loving me the best you could. Thank you for your love and protection over me even when I felt that it was too much. This next chapter in my life is dedicated to you. I promise to not let you down. I love Captain 👮🏾

To my Mommy: The beat of my heart. Thank you for life. You’re the sunshine to my day. Thank you for all your support and love. It’s you and I until the end!!

Today I lost the first man to hold me. The first to tell me he loved me.

He bought me my first bike and refused to buy the training wheels 🤣🤣. I fell so many times on that bike. I guess that was my first lesson on how to get back up and try it all over again.

Daddy my last time with you was simply amazing. I will remember your last words to me and I promise I will not let you down.

I’m going to miss you daddy. Forever your She-She. Rest easy Captain and we will take it from here.

This morning I entered myself into a moment of history. I got the chance to see the monks as they walk for peace. So many people talking and smiling. Kids of all races, laughing and playing with each other, with one thing in common, being human. And right before the monks headed down the road, the sun came out of no where. Such a beautiful moment!!! So happy that I got to experience this.
