Got to spend some time this week with some friends in Nevada, and they had me in to tell my story on their podcast. Super great to catch up with old friends, and probably the first time I’ve ever told a lot of behind the scenes stories that shaped who and what I am.

If you’ve got some time, take a listen.

I’ve been getting back into riding motorcycles lately, and I’m remembering some things that translate to life on a lot of levels.

I’m old. I haven’t raced a motorcycle competitively in 10 years. When I get on a bike now, I feel slow; sluggish; handicapped.

But then I’ll watch videos of myself back, and I realize that I’m smart, experienced, and still pretty good at it.

I remember that it’s not all about sheer speed. It’s about momentum. Sure, can you make up 0.25 seconds down a straight away by holding the throttle on a little harder and longer? Yes. But you lose it back ten fold if you have to slam on your brakes, lose traction, and blow the following corner.

Smooth and steady. I think it was Ricky Carmichael that said “You don’t win championships on your good days, you win them on your bad days.”

I also remember turning pro, and the biggest difference between the pros and the amateurs isn’t that they go any faster in the smooth sections. It’s that they don’t slow down or stumble even when the track gets rough. When they get passed, they don’t fall in line, they keep pushing forward. They find different lines. They figure out how to maintain momentum when everyone else gets scared and slams on the brakes.

That’s my outlook for this year.

Forward. Not faster, just forward. Completely relaxed and unbothered by the rough stuff. by @shaneaarondavis

Was really hoping to hit 100 flights this year, but I think now that I have my new truck, I’m finished flying for the year.

This year the airlines were a shit storm multiple times. I lost more than an entire work week to delays.

Spent 325 hours wheels up to wheels down in the air.

My job is A LOT of work, but I love that I get to see so much of the world. I don’t think my grandparents ever went more than a few hundred miles from their home town. My dad certainly never left North America. Makes me happy that I got to take my mom to Europe this summer and that my brother has been able to fly and travel to a lot of places with me.

The end of an era…

I spent almost a decade in California.

I’ve absolutely loved it, but it’s time to head east.

I bought 6 acres in Tennessee just outside of Nashville. I’m excited to build a house there. I’m excited to be closer to my friends on the east coast. I’m excited to have some land to call my own, to build dirt bike tracks on, to have a garage and an office to work in, and to eventually have some animals like my big brother does in Utah.

Thank you to the few people who came and visited me in California, and to the life long friends who made Los Angeles nothing short of an incredible and wild ride. I’m always a short plane ride away. taken in Interstate 40 by @shaneaarondavis
