🚫5 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Get Married🚫

1. You don’t know who you are outside of a relationship.

Your identity is found in Christ, period. Your spouse may have an assignment to encourage you, cover you, and help you walk boldly in who God has called you to be, but they cannot give you an identity.

You need to know who you are in Christ before you become somebody’s wife/husband. Otherwise, you can unintentionally put a weight on your spouse that they were never created to carry. Your spouse can affirm who you are, but your identity has to come from the Lord.

2. You’re expecting marriage to heal you.

Now listen, marriage can absolutely be an environment where healing happens. Je’Cory has been a safe place for me in ways that have genuinely aided in my healing journey, and I believe God ordained that.

But my healing is not my husband’s responsibility.

And whew.. marriage has a way of exposing some stuff. Wounds you thought were healed. Wounds you forgot were there. Sometimes wounds you didn’t even know existed.

There are things we need to allow God to deal with before entering covenant. Emotional accountability, counseling when needed, forgiveness, healthy communication, and allowing Christ to heal the places we’ve tried to hide are important. Marriage can support your healing, but your spouse cannot be your Savior.

3. You want a wedding more than you want to be a wife.

The dress. The ring. The venue. The pictures. The honeymoon. All of it can be BEAUTIFUL.

But baby…the wedding ends.

Being a wife is an assignment with responsibilities that go far beyond your bridal season. Covenant requires sacrifice, service, forgiveness, commitment, humility, and choosing one another over and over again.

So before you fall in love with the idea of being a bride, make sure you’re actually preparing your heart for what it means to be a wife.

4. Your desire for a spouse has become louder than your discernment.

Hello, October ♥️

Maybe you thought you’d be further along by now. Maybe there are prayers you thought would’ve been answered, doors you thought would’ve opened, or things you were sure would look different before we got to this point in the year.

But hear me….there’s still time.

Not just time to accomplish more, check another goal off the list, or try to make up for “lost time.” There’s still time to obey God. There’s still time to become who He’s called you to be. And there’s still time to see Him do what He said.

So for these last three months, we’re releasing the pressure to make everything happen and choosing to trust God with what happens next.

We’re praying.
We’re obeying.
We’re surrendering. 🤍

Because our goal isn’t just to finish the year strong.

We want to finish surrendered.
