They say it’s better late than never, but I believe everything happens exactly when the time is right.On May 9th, I walked across the stage at Winthrop University to collect more than just a degree, I collected the proof of every silent battle I’ve won over these last four years.I arrived on this campus a shy, anxious girl trying to stay invisible. But after being tested in ways I never saw coming, I realized I was never meant to fit into a crowd when God designed me specifically to stand out! I stopped playing the victim and started taking back my power.I’ve been told I’m “extra” or “too much,” but when you look like me, you learn never to settle for less. I deserve way more out of life and am beyond aware of my worth.I am the dream my African American and immigrant ancestors prayed for! They struggled so I could own this moment. By God’s grace, He showed me what’s possible when you stop doubting and start executing. I’m here to be the representation for every little Black girl who looks like me, to show her that anything and EVERYTHING is possible. What is mine will never be denied.To the lovely souls I encountered at Winthrop: thank you for every smile and “hello.” Your kindness kept me going! To my support system—my love for you runs deep. Thank you for sticking by me through the mental battles and the tuition!I am officially a BSW Graduate with a Minor in Psychology. 🎓 Black women make up only 13% of the healthcare field, and I’m stepping into Healthcare Management to be the shift we’ve been waiting for. This was such a beautiful event hosted by @naacp_winthropu Health Committee to bring awareness to Breast Cancer. The panelists truly spoke from the heart, sharing their stories, their work, and their passion for helping others. We had Kimberly Smith, a strong breast cancer survivor, Professor Ashley Garrick, a social worker who provides emotional support and resources to women facing challenges like this, Olivia Winningham, a health professional who provides care and treatment to patients, and Dr. Lopa, the founder and president of @breastcancerhub , who continues to advocate for women & men battling breast cancer. Each of them played such an important role in reminding us how powerful awareness and community truly are. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible!
