🎤 Today’s skateboarding sessions at Buxton School were focussed on one thing; celebrating women for #IWD2026

Here’s some of our incredible girls saying a few things they think women are, showing you their favourite things on a skateboard and also giving a few words of advice for you all!

pilot project… complete! ✨

back in 2025 we received funding from @gurlstalk as a part of their @nike funded #CoachInYourCorner project. the funding allowed us to take all of the incredible resources they’ve collected and created as a part of their 4 year partnership project, and use it to design a project of our own.

we saw this as an opportunity to build some strong foundations and pilot a project we hope to continue building, developing and delivering long term as a part of @shankosskateschool’s outreach work.

this project is specifically targeted to support Gurls’ aged 11-17’s mental health through skateboarding, and we’re happy to announce that we’ve delivered the pilot testing and finalised reporting!

above is a recap of what we created/achieved with the funding from Gurls Talk.

we’ll be sharing more content from the project over the coming weeks and we may also have an announcement to share with you soon after… 👀

we’d like to say that, wherever we take this project in the future, whoever may fund us, however much it changes and adapts, this project always will be fundamentally a byproduct of the Gurls Talk CIYC program. there is no Skate and Soar without the CIYC program, and we are forever thankful for their support for @shankooooooo and this project over the past few years. it’s been life changing for everyone involved.

we’re super grateful to have had this opportunity and we’re even more excited for the future.

as well as looking for further funding opportunities, we are hoping to eventually package this program up into something that we can roll out into schools regularly, so if you think the project would be beneficial for some year 9/10 girls at your school, please email Cath: cath@shankosskateschool.com to discuss.

remember: it’s ok not to be ok, but it’s not ok to go through it alone! there are people out there who care and are waiting to help you 🧠 by @shankosskateschool

// We’re excited to be back working with @skatenewham in a couple of weeks! We’ll be running a free beginners skateboarding lesson on Sunday 15th November at King George V Skatepark.

The session is a part of their “Art in Motion” project for @newhamstories, so spaces are reserved for people who come along to the Skateboard Art Workshop on Saturday 14th at Beckton Library (which Cath will be supporting all day!!)

Swipe for more information and come and join us for some indoor artsy fun and to sign up for the lesson✨ by @shankosskateschool

// popping into the school break like 🚀

that’s another great half-term of provision sessions with the boys at @eastlea.communityschool in the bag— their progression has been amazing🛹

our ongoing relationship with Eastlea is really amazing. the staff are always keen to have some skateboarding sessions booked in for their students and all of the students who take part are incredible representatives of the school. we’re looking forward to continuing working with them this school year and seeing them progress🗓️
