🚨 PSA from an ’80s/’90s kid…

Yes… read the labels.
Yes… check the recalls.
Yes… maybe know where your 🥗 came from.

But can we also acknowledge that we are the generation that…

💦 Drank out of the garden hose.
🚭 Inhaled secondhand smoke at every restaurant.
🚗 Thought seatbelts were more of a “suggestion.”
🦠 Didn’t know what hand sanitizer was.
☀️ Used baby oil as sunscreen. 😳
🚲 Rode bikes with no helmets.
📞 Had parents who had absolutely no idea where we were.

And somehow… we made it.

Now I’m standing in the grocery store reading the back of a bag of lettuce like I’m reviewing a legal contract.

Growing up in the ’80s gave us confidence.
Growing up in 2026 gave us trust issues. 😂

In all seriousness, food recalls matter. Pay attention, read the labels, and if your salad is on the list… toss it.

But if you grew up in the ’80s or ‘90s, I know you’re reading this thinking…

“The hose water prepared me for this.” 🤣

What’s the most ridiculous thing we all survived growing up? Drop it below. ⬇️

Before Carla became a mother, Glamma, advocate, and the heart behind @carlas_turn… she was a young woman in the 70s trying to heal herself.

She joined a therapy group called Primal Scream to work through childhood trauma and years of negative self-talk. What started as therapy slowly turned into something much darker: a cult. There’s even a book written about it.

During that time, Carla fell deeply in love with one of the therapists there. Until the very end of her life, she called him the love of her life. But eventually she realized the environment was unhealthy and controlling, and she walked away from both the group and the relationship. That decision changed the course of her life.

And here’s the complicated truth: even though leaving was traumatic, therapy itself transformed her.

It gave Carla self-worth. It quieted the shitty voices in her head. It softened her. Opened her heart. Made her less focused on appearances and more connected to truth, empathy, and real human connection.

Before therapy, she never even knew if she wanted children. Afterward, she built a life centered around love, family, and purpose. She learned how to balance glamour with depth, beauty with authenticity, and strength with vulnerability.

That’s part of why Carla’s Turn matters so much.

Because Carla understood that healing isn’t linear, people are complicated, and trauma can either harden you or wake you up. She chose the second one.

And now through @carlas_turn, her story continues helping families navigating Alzheimer’s, dementia, caregiving, grief, and the emotional realities so many people silently carry every day. 🤍

Divorce changes you. Healing changes you. Learning how to trust yourself again changes everything. 🙌🏽

This week on @saucy.not.bossy @shannaferrigno sat down with @lizmasucci for one of those conversations that feels raw, grounding, honest, and deeply needed.

Liz is the kind of person who makes you feel safe enough to be real. No performance. No pretending. Just someone incredibly grounded, self-aware, and genuine about the hard parts of life and healing. 🤍

They talk about divorce, motherhood, nervous system regulation, somatic therapy, and what it really looks like to rebuild yourself after living in survival mode for so long. How the body holds stress and trauma. How healing isn’t linear. And how learning to come back to yourself can change everything.

No fake positivity. No perfect answers. Just a real conversation about growth, self-awareness, and finding your footing again. ✨

If you’re navigating a difficult season or trying to reconnect with yourself, this episode is for you.

Let’s get REAL:

No child walks away from a safe, loving parent without real feelings attached to that decision. Most adult children try for years to fix the relationship before choosing distance.

Going “no contact” is rarely impulsive — it’s often a last resort after repeated emotional harm, manipulation, neglect, criticism, or boundary violations.

Sometimes distance isn’t punishment. It’s protection.
Protection of mental health.
Protection of peace.
Protection from cycles that never changed.

A title alone does not guarantee access to someone’s life. Consistent love, respect, accountability, and emotional safety do.

Carla was born in Kentucky, but because of severe respiratory issues, her family moved her to Orange County, CA hoping the climate would help her health.

She grew up with very little. She used to tell @shannaferrigno and @louferrignojr that she only had 3 dresses and 3 pairs of shoes growing up. She was constantly made fun of for her weight and clothes. Her mom and step dad struggled with addiction, spent money on alcohol, and often slept through the mornings while Carla found her own way to school starting at just 5 years old.

This photo was taken on her 5th birthday — a day her mother never showed up. And somehow, even through that heartbreak, you can still see her spirit shining. She focused on the relatives who were there for her, choosing love and joy whenever she could.

What amazes us most is how young Carla already knew she wanted more for her life. At 5 years old, she was already clear that she wanted to grow up and be a better mother to her own children. She dreamed of acting, of creating a different future, and of turning her pain into purpose.

No matter what life threw at her, Carla never gave up. She stayed strong, resilient, compassionate, and determined to become everything she never had growing up. That little girl deserved so much more, and somehow she still became a light for so many people.

“Boundaries don’t ruin relationships. People who don’t respect boundaries do.”

Let’s be real—if someone makes you feel guilty for having standards, that’s not love… that’s control.

Boundaries are how you protect your peace, your energy, and your growth. And the right people? They won’t question them—they’ll respect them.

If you’ve been shrinking yourself to keep the peace, this is your reminder: you don’t have to.
You are allowed to say no.
You are allowed to choose yourself.
You are allowed to step back from anyone who can’t honor that.

Not everyone is meant to go with you where you’re headed—and that’s okay.

On this episode of Saucy Not Bossy, we’re talking about what it really looks like to set boundaries without guilt… and why the people who push back the hardest are often the ones who benefited most from you not having any.

What happens when you’re the person everyone relies on… but you’re quietly running on empty? 😵‍💫

In this episode, @shannaferrigno sits down with licensed psychologist Dr. Courtney J. Williams, founder of @willedbywellnessllc for a real conversation about boundaries — what they actually are, why so many of us struggle with them, and how learning to set them can completely change your life.

They talk about the difference between boundaries and rules (spoiler: they’re not the same), how constantly people-pleasing can take a serious toll on your mental and physical health, and why so many women feel guilty the moment they try to protect their time and energy.

Dr. Williams also shares her personal journey to becoming a psychologist, the powerful lessons she’s learned through caregiving, and how culture, family, and expectations shape the way we show up for others — often at the expense of ourselves.

This episode is thoughtful, honest, and full of those “oh wow… I needed to hear that” moments.

If you’ve ever struggled to say no, felt overwhelmed by responsibility, or wondered how to care for others without losing yourself in the process — this conversation is for you.

Marriage isn’t just about the highlight reel.
It’s about showing up in the messy middle.
It’s about staying when things feel heavy and celebrating when things feel light.

Ten years later, I see us more clearly than ever— @chrisndukuba not just for where we’ve been, but for everything we’ve worked through to get here.

Still growing. Still learning. Still choosing us. by @shannaferrigno

My sweet beautiful Mama. Sacrificed so much for a husband that abandoned her, after 43 years, when she got this tragic disease. It’s time for my momma to shine. ✨

Carla’s Turn 🤍

Carla’s Turn is a tribute to Carla Ferrigno — #TeamCarla — a badass mom, actress, fitness author, and celebrity manager. She was strength and glamour, grit and grace, all in one.

Even when Alzheimer’s tried to take pieces of her, it never took her spirit.

But the joy of her brilliant brain left us far too soon.

Carla’s Turn was born from love — and from being completely lost.

As her main caretaker, I didn’t know where to turn in the beginning. The first stage is confusing. The last stage is heartbreaking. And no one prepares you for the in-between.

Carla’s Turn is a place for anyone walking this road — whether you’re just hearing the diagnosis or saying goodbye. A place for support, guidance, real talk, and hope.

Because you don’t have to navigate Alzheimer’s alone.

I’m totally joking about sobriety — I truly respect the journey — but I’ve never been big on New Year’s resolutions. The stats show why: most goals don’t last long. On average, people abandon their resolutions after just 3.7 months, and only about 6–8% of people still have them a year later. Many give up within the first couple of months. 🤔

Mental and physical health are lifestyle rhythms, not one-off targets. So this year, instead of trying to transform everything at once, pick one thing you actually enjoy and can commit to for just 20 minutes a day. Do that consistently. When it feels solid after a week or more, add another simple practice.

Be realistic. Be gentle with yourself. Growth isn’t a sprint — it’s a marathon, and every small step you take adds up.

I’m blessed to have another healthy year and deeply grateful for each of you in this community. Let’s make this year about progress, not pressure — one day, one habit, one moment at a time.
