Episode 1 of Push Past the Cringe is live and Iā€™m not going to lieā€¦ Hitting post on this was uncomfortable in a way I didnā€™t expect. Iā€™ve spent 5+ years telling other people to show up consistently. To post even when it feels scary. To stop waiting until itā€™s perfect. And here I amā€¦ finally taking my own dang advice šŸ’šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Because the truth is I had a podcast with over 140 episodes. I had what most would call a brand. But somewhere along the way I felt like I fell off the face of the earth. I guess moving back to the states and getting reverse culture shock will do that to you.šŸ«  But hereā€™s what that time away taught me. I didnā€™t just want to be a service provider anymore. I didnā€™t want to just post about business or be an information bank. I wanted to build a creator brand. One that felt like me, allowed me to work with brands I love, and proved that you could build a business around your life and not the other way around. So thatā€™s what Iā€™m doing. Out loud. In public. Whether itā€™s cringe or not. This series is for every service provider, freelancer and creator who has every skill, every tool, every reason to build something of their own - yet keeps finding every excuse not to. So you think your life is too boring to film? I used to think that too. Truth is, your favorite creators are still just filming their own lives, their routines, their personality, their perspective. That part hasnā€™t changed. Whatā€™s different is why you actually watch and keep coming back. Nobodyā€™s sticking around just to witness someoneā€™s life (unless youā€™re a Kardashian). Theyā€™re sticking around because something about it entertains them, teaches them something, or makes them feel a little less alone in whatever theyā€™re dealing with. Thatā€™s the part most people miss. Itā€™s still your life. Itā€™s still you. You just have to ask whoā€™s actually watching and what they could take away from it, instead of posting and hoping for the best. So no, you donā€™t need a more interesting life to become a successful creator. You need to stop posting your life at people and start thinking about whatā€™s in it for them. by @shannonsegall

I taught personal branding for years yet hid behind tips and tricks for my own account šŸ™ˆ It wasnā€™t until I realized I had produced over 140 podcast episodes that I understood the ā€œbrandā€ I was building wasnā€™t what I wanted. I wanted to share more than just social media marketing tips, but Iā€™d boxed myself in too much to figure out how. So I went down a rabbit hole trying to figure out what the creators who actually blew up were doing differently. Spoiler, it wasnā€™t better tips or a more consistent posting schedule. It was that they stopped hiding behind being useful and let people actually know them. So thatā€™s what Iā€™m doing now with my new Cringe Files series, documenting the actual shift from service provider to creator brand, mistakes and all. A not so typical Saturday in my life in San Diego. I somehow went from a Padres game to acquiring a friend of a friends dachshund (my absolute dream dog) and made a visit to the vet ER. Thankfully pup is on the mend and I now have fallen in love with a dog thatā€™s not mine. by @shannonsegall
