My first ever encounter with a beautiful puma at Torres Del Paine, Chile. Her name is Dania. About 9 meters away, she walked straight towards us with an unwavering curiosity in her eyes. When she locked eyes with me, I felt like she touched my soul. Only the second time in my life, photographing using a big lens and professional camera, Dania gave me a gift that any aspiring photographer dreams of. She has inspired me for life. I’m so grateful to be able to learn from the very best @marinacano and @merchellobera , thanks for giving me the time of my life at your ‘Pumas in Patagonia’ safari. I’m truly touched and inspired.#pumagonia #pumas_chile #patagonia #wildlifephotography #travelphotography #cougar#patagoniawild #patagoniachile #torresdelpaine #wildanimals #vacation #bucketlist #chilegram #naturephotography #bbcearth #nationalgeographic #wpcover25 #nuts_about_wildlife by @shaona.learningfromthewild

Craig, Amboseli’s largest tusker, has left us. This is another photo of him from back in October. He must have been already suffering in ways we could never see, yet he carried himself with such gentleness. He seemed to understand human behavior better than we understand ourselves. He was never agitated, never aggressive; only tolerant, calm, and peaceful.
There is so much to learn from animals like him. How kindness can exist even in suffering. How strength doesn’t always need to show itself. There was no urgency in him, only a calm acceptance, as if he had already made peace with the world around him. #craig #ripcraig #wildlifephotography #naturephotography #craigtucker @biglifeafrica @amboseli_trust @kenyawildlifeservice by @shaona.learningfromthewild

We found the tiniest of cubs, barely a few weeks old, tucked into the hollow of a fallen tree. When their mother called, they spilled out one by one—wobbly on unsteady legs, heads still too large for their bodies. This one lingered behind, peeking at us shyly from beneath the arch, a small and fragile promise of life. Kenya had brutality, irresponsible tourism, but it also has hope. Nature’s miraculous fine balance. #featuredwildlife #bigcats #babylions #widlifephotography #masaimaranationalreserve @soroiprivatewing @soroimarabushcamp @soroiprivatewing by @shaona.learningfromthewild

Wishing you a holiday season wrapped in warmth, protection, and the kind of love that allows us to grow into who we’re meant to be.
Captured while on tour in Kenya — Amboseli and the Masai Mara — alongside the incredible @marinacano and @merchellobera . I’m deeply grateful to have witnessed the strength of these mothers, the fragility of their newborns, and the unconditional devotion that surrounds them. This baby still carried her umbilical cord — a moment so new, so tender, it felt sacred. A true privilege to witness. Moments like this made me reflect on the things we so often take for granted.

It was pouring, the sky split open with cold relentless rain, and she stood there still, composed, a sentinel against the storm. She looked almost serene, vigilant yet calm as if she had learnt to carry the weight of survival with quiet resignation. Then with the suddenness of lightning, she sprang forward. Before we could even register the blur of motion, she had locked onto a solitary impala, exposed and alone in the rain. The chase was brief, brutal, and silent. Within minutes the impala had surrendered as though the storm itself had worn it down. But what followed was not triumph, it was haunting. The moment the struggle ended, her posture changed. She didn’t look victorious, she looked exposed. Her ears flattened, her head low, every muscle tensed not in dominance but in dread. She kept glancing left and then right searching the dark horizon for shadows that might steal what she had risked to obtain. The rain clung to her fur, making her eye glisten with something that read less like predatory focus and more like raw fear. It was like the world stripped her bare in one moment she was supposed to be the strongest. She began to eat, with every bite she seemed to brace for interruption, every swallow a gamble. In her gaze, I didn’t see savagery, I saw vulnerability, exhaustion, and a kind of desperate loneliness. Cheetahs wear the mask of apex predators but the truth is harsher; they are fragile athletes trapped in a landscape that demands more than their bodies can withstand. A successful hunt is rare, and they feed under constant threat from leopards, lions, hyenas. Expanding tourism interrupts their one chance hunt, poaching tears the cubs from hiding places. Their numbers are rapidly declining, maybe soon there will be no eyes to reflect that fear. This moment in the rain was not just a hunt , it was a glimpse into a life lived in constant peril. And if we fail to act, the last thing the cheetah will ever feel may not be freedom but fear. #cheetahconservationfund #internationalcheetahday #actionforcheetahs #natgeo #cheetah #natgeoindia #conservation #animalwelfare #masaimara #responsibletourism #wildlife #natgeoyourshotpoy25 taken in Masai Mara, Kenya by @shaona.learningfromthewild

The Dancer and the Giant
As the buffalo stands like an unmoving monument, the egret atop its back lifts a wing as if mid-dance—light, playful, and unaware of the immense strength beneath its graceful steps while another egret watches every graceful move. #wildlife #africanwildlife #wildlifephotography #naturephotography #africa by @shaona.learningfromthewild

We were thrilled to spot the elusive serval cat, all thanks to @merchellobera's eagle eyes! Apparently, it takes years to see one, but I was lucky to see her on my first trip to Masai Mara. She was constantly on the lookout, expertly hiding in the tall grass. We got to witness her pounce, hunt, and even yawn. What a privilege! Thanks to @merchellobera and @marinacano , it’s this sort of experience that takes years to find.#masaimaranationalreserve #servalcat #servalcats #africa #kenya #wildlifephotography #widlife #safari #wildcats #nationalgeographic #natgeo #naturephotography #animalplanet #bbcearthmagazine #wildlifephotographer #naturephotography#wpcover25 #natgeoyourshotpoy25 #nutsaboutwildlife @soroimarabushcamp @soroiprivatewing @soroicollection #nuts_about_wildlife taken in Masai Mara, Kenya by @shaona.learningfromthewild
