One of the most incredible wildlife experiences I’ve ever had. 🐋💙

Seeing sperm whales in the wild was something I’ll never forget. These gentle giants are the largest toothed predators on Earth, capable of diving over 2,000 metres and holding their breath for more than an hour while hunting deep-sea squid.

We had an anytime in Mostar. It is one of the most fascinating cities in the Balkans, where East meets West. Founded along the emerald-green Neretva River, it flourished as an important trading centre during the Ottoman era. The city’s name comes from the “mostari” (bridge keepers) who once watched over the famous bridge that became its symbol.

At the heart of the city stands Stari Most, originally built in 1566. The bridge survived for more than 400 years before being destroyed during the Bosnian War in 1993. It was meticulously rebuilt using original materials and traditional techniques, reopening in 2004 as a powerful symbol of resilience and reconciliation.

Today, locals still dive 24 metres from the bridge into the Neretva below. After taking a swim in the river myself, I can confirm why that’s impressive — even on a warm day, the water is absolutely freezing, usually around 10–15°C thanks to the mountain springs that feed it.

Beautiful Mostar. We never even knew this town existed until 5 days ago. Reminds me so much of Istanbul. Definitely worth a visits. We tried the local cuisine at a restaurant overlooking The Old bridge where we had the famous local dish called Ćevapi (also spelled ćevapčići). taken in Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina by @share_themoments_

Caught the train 🚂 from Rome to Venice to meet Mawa… and after a few mechanical issues along the way, I eventually made it there — 7 hours later 😅

First stop: grocery shopping 🛒 because I was absolutely starving after not eating the whole day.

Once the hunger situation was under control, we decided we couldn’t be this close to Venice and not go in. We stayed just outside the city, near the main train station, to keep things simple with trains and luggage — but still managed to squeeze in about 90 minutes of wandering around Venice before heading back.

Then came the next little adventure… making sure we got back before the train strikes started at 9pm. Our first train was completely overfilled, so we were told to get onto another one leaving at 21:01. None of us on the train were actually sure whether it would even leave, so when it finally started moving, everyone was very relieved 😂

As we pulled into our station, the announcement came through that this would be the last stop due to strike action 🫣 Close call!

Now we’re just hoping everything goes smoothly with our train to Garda today… nobody seems to know which regional trains will actually be running and which won’t 🤞🤞🤞#venice #venicetravel #adventure #leisureathlete #sharethemoments taken in Venezia, Italy by @share_themoments_

It all started off as a crazy idea while I was taking a break on the surfski on the Saturday . I was looking for an opening on a 2 day hike in the area … then noticed that there were 10 spots that became available on the Otter trail for the next day. I would literally have less than 24h from reading about it to having to start the hike the next day. At that point, I had zero gear with me to do a hike and no idea how I was going to get to the start and back!!!
It was just one of those “we regret more the things we didn’t do than the things we did do” moments and then I decided that I really wanted to do it and put all my effort into making it work.

AND

WOW … it ended up being 5 of the most incredible days of my life. Things work out when you really want them to and you put enough positive energy into it!

What I experienced is something I realize I’ll probably never have again. I had my own hut on the Otter Trail for four nights, with the most incredible weather. Since I was alone, I could sleep outside under the stars ”I carried my mattress out and set it up on the stoep, something you’re technically not allowed to do, but it’s not every day that I get to sleep outside without a tent. I saw countless dolphins, swam naked, and had unforgettable moments that wouldn’t have been the same if I had waited for what I thought would be the perfect scenario - doing it with a close group of friends.

What made it even more special was that the Otter Trail was the last adventure or holiday my brothers and I did with my mom before she got sick 16 years ago.

It was magical - I relived so many cherished memories. #MISOGI2025

But I had to take that step. I had to decide to go. Sometimes, you just have to close your eyes and say, “F” it, “I’m doing this” even if it terrifies you. Otherwise, you’ll never do it. #hike #ottertrail #adventurehike #adventuretravel
