💔 I can’t believe I’m even writing this right now...my heart breaks.

“This too shall pass.” She said it so often. It was her gentle reminder that everything, even pain, changes with time. It’s hard to believe those words now, because losing her feels like something that will never pass.

Grums was endlessly positive, no matter what life threw her way. She had this rare gift of making everyone around her feel comfortable, seen, and happy. She was smart as a whip and always curious — reading, excercising, playing games, meeting new people. She pushed herself to grow every single day and poured so much love into everyone around her, especially my mom, sister, and I.

Most people visit their grandmothers out of obligation, but my sister and I spent time with her because we truly ADORED her. Every moment with her — the laughter, the warmth, the way she listened so deeply — felt like home.

She lived with grace and joy; always elegant, always glowing, full of life and energy until the very end. Her beauty, wisdom, and spirit were unmatched. She truly loved living, and she taught us to do the same. Her presence filled every room, and her absence leaves a space that can’t be replaced. But her love and her voice — reminding me that “this too shall pass” — will stay with me forever. 💔

My heart breaks. 💔 My beautiful, vibrant mother, Jeannine, our “Grums” passed away early this morning, April 15th. Below is her obituary.
—
Jeannine Frances Perkins, 95, of Middletown, NJ, passed away April 15, 2026. An only child, Jeannine was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 26, 1930 to Helen Airy and Clyde Booth before moving to Washington D.C. in 1941. After a brief relocation with her mother and stepfather to Junction City, KS, she returned back to Washington in 1944 and graduated from McKinley Technology High School in 1949. An avid singer and dynamic actress, Jeannine’s interests also extended to pageantry, and she was crowned Miss Washington in 1949 before landing a job as the secretary to the credit manager at General Motors Acceptance Corporation (“GMAC”). It was at GMAC where she would meet the love of her life, Edgar Perkins, a US Navy veteran of WWII, that same year. They married March 1, 1951 and gave birth to their first child Rick later that year. After living with Ed’s parents in a small apartment for a few years where Jeannine selflessly cared for Ed’s arthritic mother, they moved into their very first home together in Forest Heights, Maryland. Jeannine was also blessed to have her second child Sharon to become a happy family of four. Transferred multiple times due to Ed’s job, they were residents of New Jersey, Long Island, New York, and Clearwater, Florida before Jeannine settled back to New Jersey in 2016. by @sharonheal
