I ordered this months ago and it arrived today. Can’t wait to read it. As I share in a clip on my YouTube channel, I started renovating in 2000 a laundromat in Williamsburg before that neighborhood’s revival but bailed out for a women’s residence in Gramercy (which in 2008 became a luxury condo like many old factories-turned artist lofts) and next, grad school in NC. It’s going to be so nice to see how that effort fits into the longer history of artist living and working in the same dwelling in NYC and greater NYC. I remember the rabbi who rented me my place saying, “I want more artists like you!” Well, they came alongside with so much else. But here’s someone who documented what was happening before all that change. PS I did have a loft life in downtown Detroit late last century before all the change in that city. Lots of artists in my building, which used to be a factory for car seats. I first began painting for exhibition in that space, shot part of a jazz doc in it and the rest is history. Downtown Detroit was a ghost town on the weekends. I remember an artist-friend who lived and had a gallery in one of the old buildings. My first solo show was in her space: 2-South. Time. It all goes too fast. Now, on to this book!! Glad someone recovered the history of many, among them, ones have already died. @joshuacharow by @sharonyagreen

I wanted to share a link to the 1995 reading I found on that then-Villa Montalvo cassette mentioned in my last post ft audio from the babbling brook on Montalvo’s grounds. May poet Pat Dobler rest in peace. I’m honored to have had a chance to read with her during our artist residencies at present day Montalvo Center. The link in my profile will take you the page or feel free to listen on my YouTube channel. #poetry #patdobler https://youtu.be/y6_qspo9vco?feature=shared by @sharonyagreen

Found a 1995 cassette I made of a babbling brook on the grounds of Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, CA, now the present day Montalvo Arts Center. I had an artist residency there way back then. My husband digitized it this week. I still remember running into this older man who told me to not be afraid of snakes and mountain lions while I was setting down my little tape recorder in those foothills. You can hear me and him and next, the peaceful brook for bulk of the recording in my profile for a bit or at this YouTube link https://youtu.be/2cDSOe0cIFQ?feature=shared by @sharonyagreen

As mentioned, my husband and I traveled to Greensboro, NC, a few days ago. Memories still flow! I remain so grateful to my late MA in Dance advisor John Gamble, 2006 NC Board of Governors Teaching Excellence winner. I’m standing beside him in the first photo and he’s listening to a former classmate in the second photo. He was such a wonderful listener. I also have memories of shooting Gamla Stan, my MA in Dance thesis film, in Stockholm but also Guilford Courthouse park, site of a critical skirmish during the American Revolution. See it on Daily Motion or at the link in my bio for a while. I can’t wait to share more with my U.S. to 1865 students this fall. I’m pictured in this park in one of these photos. A dear friend named Pam took that photo. She’s a great photographer. Finally, the late Gamble’s partner, stands beside me in another photo. We’d just taken down the set for Winter Ashes, a performance in which we participated as members of Gamble’s company. These amazing souls will always be cherished. by @sharonyagreen

This is a walk down memory lane! I made this lopsided pillow a few years ago using scraps from @themending.space (Krista, a cool maker has this brand). My husband shared this AM that he’d been looking for a book for use with his latest manuscript for and at last found it when he moved this pillow. 🙏🏾😉 I really love Krista’s stitches on the olive fabric, the tree on the side of the house and key at the top of the house. by @sharonyagreen
