IPHIGENIA tickets are on sale now!

2,400 years ago, a man wrote a play about a king named Agamemnon who sacrificed his daughter for the sake of a war. With IPHIGENIA, Sharp & Fine blends dance, theater, and live music to cut open Euripides’s tragedy and imagine how the woman at the center of it might eventually find her own voice and ask: What’s the point of sacrifice?

Since we have some new folks following us (Hello! We’re so happy you’re here!), we wanted to share a little introduction and an invitation to join our wonderful newsletter readers. 💌 We’ll mostly be talking about the process of making THE IPHIGENIA PROJECT, which premieres in October, plus a few other shows and maybe workshops along the way.

The video clips feature collaborators from our two most recent evening-length shows, A DETECTIVE STORY and IMAGINARY COUNTRY: @molevy, @smileypiley, Charmaine Butcher, @hickswithham, @jcro5, @sonjaflanders, and @mereweb (just a glimpse!)

Our “overwhelm” trio, originally an improv setup we squirreled away back in December, now gracefully resurrected by @smileypiley, @efranklin.tv, and @ryrontosuarus for the last section of IPHIGENIA.

Sometimes, you get to the end of a piece and are overjoyed to discover a spot for a particularly shiny nugget you were afraid you would have to otherwise leave by the wayside 😉

The whole time we’ve been making this show, we’ve found ourselves picking at threads about heroes and sacrifices. And now here we are, almost at the end of it, making this duet for our versions of Iphigenia and Achilles with @molevy and @smileypiley 🩷🩷

It’s so hard to make the last thing you’re going to give the audience to take with them as they go back out into the world. If you think too hard about it, it feels a little like making an argument for the worthwhileness of coming together to be in the same place and same time to watch other people tell you a story. No pressure! Here are @molevy and @smileypiley working on the last bit of the last part of IPHIGENIA, which we have very unsubtly nicknamed “catharsis.” You can hear a little snippet of @wienerkids’s gorgeous music.

Also, @zacchosf has one of the most picturesque dance spaces in SF 😍 by @sharpandfine

TALK STORY was such a sweet, inspiring show. We shared work alongside artists who we admire very much. We all tried out new things. We gave our audience the chance to experience four perspectives on storytelling with dance. And we had delicious snacks! Here’s hoping we can make it happen again next year🤞

We didn’t mean to make a show with two acts, and yet, here we are. Now, if we can just figure out how to stick the landing… Starting with this dense, ferocious little duet for @kikikiraraaa and @ryrontosuarus. by @sharpandfine
