This is one of my favorite pieces of art/history I own; a copper or bronze ship spike embedded in a fragment of wooden ship.

I acquired it from a good person on LBI in NJ, whose wife found it on the beach after a big storm. It’s amazing what the ocean still holds. This could be from the late 1700’s to early 1900’s.

The cold, deep, and low-oxygen zones in parts of the North Atlantic slow down bacterial decay and wood-boring marine life, preserving historical wrecks. You can still see where some woodworms did their work.

Where do you think it came from? What ship do I have a part of? What happened to the crew?

My first post of my most prized possession; my engagement watch given to me by my wonderful, beautiful fiancée. A limited edition (only 200 made!) @balticwatches Transat Cafe L’or scalegraph. It has a beautiful champagne dial, complimented by pops of blue and orange accents, boasting a 15 min regatta style countdown bicompax chronograph. It somehow matches everything I wear, and the 39.5 mm case is the perfect size for this style (I have about a 7” wrist). Also love the retro beads of rice bracelet. A great choice and pairing, and also came with an grey sailcloth strap for a sportier look. The hand winding movement gives me a nice moment of peace and mindfulness everyday, and reminds me how marvelous my fiancée is.

If you ever get a chance to handle an @sangin.instruments, definitely take the opportunity. They’re built like tanks and make you really consider what a “tool watch” should feel like
