Fish of a lifetime. Barracuda right at home, who would have guessed that it was possible? Thank you @gyotaku.by.som for the incredible artwork I knew as soon as I got it I would be taking it to you!

Also a huge shout out to my dad for taking me out with less than 24 hours notice and getting me right into the fish! As well as my brother Gage for being my dive buddy for the day. I don’t think he knew what he was getting himself into😂 by @shawn.behrend

2026 @tristateskindivers species meet. Definitely a day I’ll never forget. NJ State record barracuda, probably the last thing I expected to see out there but I’m stoked.

@tristateskindivers member Shawn recently landed a beautiful triggerfish - not only a stunning catch but also a prized delicacy. He wanted to preserve the moment with a Gyotaku print, especially given the clean bullseye shot he placed on it.

A quick word about Shawn: what truly stands out is his patience and willingness to give back. When I was just starting out in spearfishing, Shawn was one of the few who took the time to walk me through every step — from diving technique to landing fish. He brought me to his favorite spots, stuck with me through every rookie mistake, and never once made me feel like a burden. Thanks to his guidance, I was able to get my first Striped Bass and even a Doormat Fluke (with him) on the spear.

Shawn - I’m seriously grateful, man. You’ve made a lasting impact on my journey and on so many others. You’re a real one. To many more memories, cheers!
