When you are invited to an event at someone’s home — follow the instructions.

I want to start there because that is where most people go wrong. The invitation comes with information. And what most people do is read the parts they like and quietly decide the other parts are suggestions.

They are not suggestions.

Here is what following instructions actually looks like:
ARRIVE ON TIME. Not early. Not late. not CP time. On time.
I need to say that again because both of those are a problem. Early is not thoughtful. Early is inconvenient. The host is still setting up, still getting dressed, still putting finishing touches on a space they have been preparing for you. Showing up 30 minutes early because “you’re excited” is showing up before you were invited. Don’t do that.

Late is disrespectful. Your host planned a timeline. Food has a window. The evening has a flow. When you walk in 45 minutes after the stated time because “that’s just how you are” — you have communicated that your comfort is more important than their effort. On time means on time. If the invitation says 7 — you arrive at 7.

THE DRESS CODE AND THE COLOR SCHEME. If they told you — they told you for a reason. A host who gives a dress code and a color scheme has a vision for their event. They thought about how it should look, how the photos should feel, how the room should come together. And when one person decides the instructions don’t apply to them — they become the thing in the photo that doesn’t belong.

Garden party attire means garden party attire. All white means all white. Black tie means black tie. A color scheme means you wear those colors.

It is not a suggestion. It is part of your invitation. And if you cannot or do not want to follow the dress code — the elevated choice is to decline the invitation graciously rather than show up on your own terms. 🧐

There is something that happens when your space is clean that nobody fully prepares you for.

The fog lifts.

Not slowly. Not eventually. Almost immediately.

You walk into a room that is clean — really clean, surfaces cleared, floor swept, that smell of something fresh in the air — and something in your chest just... releases.

You didn’t even realize you were carrying it.

The weight of the mess. The low hum of everything unfinished. The way your brain was quietly logging every pile, every dish, every corner that needed attention — all of it running in the background like too many tabs open at once.

And then it’s gone.

And you can think. Clearly. Fully. Without that noise underneath everything.

That is not a coincidence. That is not in your head.

Your environment is in direct conversation with your nervous system. And a cluttered space tells your brain that the work is never done. That rest is not available yet. That peace is somewhere on the other side of the pile.

A clean space tells your brain something different.

It says: you handled it.
It says: you are someone who takes care of where you live.
It says: you can rest now.

And rest — real rest, not just sitting in the middle of chaos and calling it relaxing — changes everything about how you show up the next day.

So if you have been feeling foggy lately.
Overwhelmed for no specific reason.
Like you cannot get your thoughts together no matter how hard you try.

Before you journal it.
Before you talk it through.
Before you do anything else —

Clean your space.

Make your bed. Do the dishes. Clear one surface. Light a candle.

And then sit in it.

Just sit in it.

And feel what peace feels like when it finally has somewhere to land.

First dates are not about being perfect.

They are about being prepared and present.

Men — here is your first date checklist:

🕺🏿1. Plan ahead. Know where you are going before you pick her up or meet her. “I don’t know, what do you want to do?” is not a plan.

🕺🏿2. Be on time. Early is on time. On time is late.

🕺🏿3. Your hygiene should be spotless — fresh haircut if possible, clean nails, ironed clothes, good cologne applied lightly.

🕺🏿4. Put your phone face down or in your pocket. She should have your full attention.

🕺🏿5. Open the door. Pull out the chair. Walk on the street side of the sidewalk. These details matter more than you think. Sit facing the door.

🕺🏿6. Ask questions and actually listen to the answers. Do not spend the date waiting for your turn to talk.

🕺🏿7. Handle the bill without making it a moment. Reach for it, pay it, move on.

You are not auditioning. You are just showing up as your best self.

It’s okay to give her a compliment sis!

I know we don’t always say it because of what we think it means.

We think saying “you look amazing” to another woman means we’re admitting she looks better than us.

We think saying “you killed that presentation” means we’re handing her something we wanted for ourselves.

We think lifting her up somehow lowers our ceiling.

And none of that is true. None of it!

Here is what is actually true:

The women who shine the brightest are almost always surrounded by other women who told them they were shining long before they believed it themselves.

Somebody told her her hair was beautiful on a day she almost didn’t do it.

Somebody told her she was good at her job on a day she was about to quit.

Somebody told her she looked amazing on a day she felt invisible.

And that one sentence — that one small act of seeing someone — changed something. Maybe it changed her whole week. Maybe it changed her whole direction. Maybe she went home and told her daughter that a woman noticed her today and it was the best part of her day.

You have that kind of power. Every single day. And it does not cost you anything!

Not your beauty. Not your brilliance. Not your spot.

There is room for all of us. And the women who know that — the ones who say it out loud, who celebrate freely, who lift without keeping score — those are the most elevated women in every room.

Be that woman. Tell her. Today.

I love a strapless dress. (As you can see) I love a spaghetti strap moment. I genuinely do. But I need to have a conversation about what is happening — or more accurately what is NOT happening — underneath some of these outfits. 🫣

Here is the truth nobody is saying out loud:

The dress being strapless is a style choice. Skipping support is a different choice entirely. And those two things are not the same decision.

Here is your setting guide for when support is non-negotiable:

WORK OR PROFESSIONAL SETTING:

A strapless or thin-strap dress at a work event, a presentation, a meeting, or anything professional requires a strapless bra, a bra-built-in option, or adhesive support. Full stop. This is not about being old-fashioned. This is about the fact that your professional presentation includes everything your outfit is — and isn’t — doing.

CHURCH, FUNERAL, FORMAL FAMILY EVENT:

The same standard applies. These are settings where modesty and intentionality are expected. A flowing strapless sundress at your cousin’s graduation without proper support is not the moment.

DINNER DATE OR FIRST DATE:

You want to feel confident and put-together. Proper support changes your posture, your silhouette, and how the dress actually fits. The dress was designed to sit a certain way. Support helps it do that job.

A WEDDING AS A GUEST:

You will be in photos. You will be standing, sitting, dancing, hugging people. Proper support for the entire event is not optional — it’s just smart dressing.

Now — a beach day? A backyard cookout? A casual Saturday with your friends? Live your life sis!
Dress your way. Do what feels right for the moment and your body.

But here is the elevated standard I want you to carry:

The question is never just “does the dress need a bra strap?”

The question is: “does this setting require me to show up with full intention — and is my foundation supporting that?”

Dress for the occasion.

From the inside out.

I know what’s in that pile.

👖The jeans you wore once and they’re not dirty but they’re not clean either so they went to the corner.

👚The shirt you tried on, changed your mind, and tossed instead of hanging back up.

🧥The hoodie you wear so often it lives on the chair because putting it away feels pointless.

👗The outfit from that thing you went to last week that you definitely meant to hang up.

That pile is not clutter. That pile is a series of small decisions you decided not to make. And every morning you wake up and see it — it drains something from you before your day even starts.

Here’s what I need you to do:

Set a timer for 20 minutes.
Pick up every single item in that pile and make a decision — hang it, fold it, wash it, or donate it.

Those are the only four options. There is no fifth option that ends with it going back in a pile.

Clean clothes hang or fold. Dirty clothes go in the hamper.
Things that don’t fit or that you haven’t worn in six months go in a donation bag that leaves your home this week.

Then look at the corner. That empty corner is not nothing. That empty corner is peace. That is breathing room. That is what your bedroom is supposed to feel like.

Your bedroom should be the room you rest in — not the room you stress in. 🤏🏽

Twenty minutes.

One decision at a time.

Start today. by @shawnobrown

Nobody talks about this enough — what you wear on a date is communication before you say a single word. It tells your date how seriously you took the invitation and how much you respect them and yourself.

Let me break it down by the type of date:

✨CASUAL FIRST DATE — coffee, lunch, a walk:
You don’t have to be dressed to the nines. But you should look like you thought about it. Clean jeans, a fitted top or button-down, clean shoes. Hair done. Nails clean. Fragrance light. Put-together without trying too hard.

✨DINNER DATE — sit-down restaurant:
Step it up. A nice blouse or dress for her. Slacks or dark fitted jeans and a collared shirt for him. Clean shoes — not sneakers unless they’re clearly intentional and stylish. You’re sitting across from someone who chose to spend their time with you. Honor that.

✨OUTDOOR DATE — concert, festival, farmer’s market:
This is where you get to have fun with it. But “fun” still means intentional. A cute coordinated casual look. Comfortable shoes that also look good. Weather-appropriate — but make the weather work for you, not against you.

✨EVENT DATE — a show, a formal dinner, a wedding as a plus one:
Ask what the dress code is. Asking is not weak. Showing up underdressed to a formal event is.

For every single date type — the rule isthe same:
Look like you care. Because if you’re asking someone for their time, you should.

Before anyone reads your bio, meets your friends, or hears your goals — they walk into your home. And in the first 60 seconds they learn more about you than you intended to share.

What your home communicates:

🏡THE ENTRYWAY — Is it welcoming or chaotic? Shoes piled up, mail stacked for weeks, no sense of order? That is what greets every guest — and every version of you that comes home.

🏡THE BATHROOM — Clean surfaces, fresh towels, no residue on the sink. This is the room every guest uses privately. It speaks loudest.

🏡THE BEDROOM — Even if guests never see it, you wake up in it every morning. A made bed and a clear surface changes how you start your day. Clutter in your space creates clutter in your mind.

🏡THE KITCHEN — Dishes in the sink, expired food in the fridge, a stovetop that hasn’t been wiped in weeks. Or a clean, functional space that says: I take care of myself.

Your home does not have to be expensive to be elevated. It has to be intentional.

Cleanliness is self-respect made visible.

🌸The Elevated Etiquette Tip🌸

Let me be clear before anything else:

Ashy skin is not a Black thing. Dry skin is not a race thing. It shows up on every complexion — it just looks different. On darker skin tones it shows as a gray or white cast. On lighter skin tones it shows as redness, flaking, and roughness. Different in appearance. Same cause. Same fix.

So this is for all of us. No exceptions.

Here are the five spots everybody skips:

🫧ONE — YOUR EYES.

Crusty corners at noon mean you didn’t wash your face this morning. Wash your face. Every morning. Get into the eye area. Done.

🫧TWO — THE WEB OF YOUR FINGERS. That little V-shaped skin between each finger? It dries out and cracks because you wash your hands constantly and moisturize nowhere near it. Lotion goes between every finger. Every time.

🫧THREE — YOUR ELBOWS. No oil glands. Cannot moisturize themselves. That is your job. Lotion after every shower — on purpose, both elbows, every day.

🫧FOUR — YOUR KNEES. The forgotten sibling of the elbow situation. Most people stop at mid-thigh. The lotion goes over the kneecap. All the way down.

🫧FIVE — YOUR FEET. Cracked heels, ashy tops, rough calluses, toenails living their best unsupervised life. Foot cream nightly. Pumice stone weekly. Trim the nails. Dry between every toe.

Four extra minutes a day.

That is all this takes. Let’s pay better attention to our whole body. .

You are moisturized from your eyes to your feet — or you are not there yet.

Let’s get there.That’s All.
