In 2012, the Government of Jamaica declared August 17 as #MarcusGarveyDay in honour of the nation's first National Hero. This day also marks the birthday of The Rt. Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey, whose legacy goes far beyond our shores and continues to this day.

#FunFact • Several Jamaican words / phrases were added to the Oxford Dictionary last year (2025), the longest of which is "carry-go-bring-come". How cool is that!

I recently read an article* that shared the possibility of improving cognitive abilities through laughter - "Studies indicate that laughter reduces cortisol levels, leading to a healthier hippocampus and improved memory, which, in turn, enhances the quality of our lives." Sometimes laughter really is the best medicine! How are you coping lately?

"Tek serious ting mek joke" - Jamaican phrase 🇯🇲 Meaning: To make light of serious situations; A coping mechanism to remain hopeful / optimistic (Note: Interpretations vary)
