「The miracle emperor.」

This shoot, this opportunity, was so special to me. It meant so much to be on the turf and honor the spirit of this incredible character (and real life horse) who continually found the deepest joy in the deepest despair, who stubbornly ran forwards even when her legs failed her (three times in a row). She taught me that you have to be the one to make your own miracle come true.

「Training to break a jinx, huh?」

An ode to those of us who fight fate. This is what Tokai Teio means to me, an uma that defied all expectation and, through sheer will, redefined her ending.

(I love the way these shots came out, they look like screenshots from the anime. What would Teio’s signature look like, I wonder? Maybe I should practice her autograph.)

「I can make a miracle happen.」

I had so much fun at the racecourse as one of my favorite uma, Tokai Teio. Her incredible story, based on the real horse of the same name, always makes my heart ache. Long live the Prince of the track, may you run forever in our memory! (Please ignore they her boots are wrong omfg have mercy on my hooves.)

「Your darkness and mine, a storm I can’t disobey.」

When they dance together in secret it must have been like this, a rehearsal for their deaths. It’s tender and terrifying and dizzying. Mizi’s hand crushes Sua’s. It probably hurts. They don’t let go.

「On an unfamiliar stage just for the two of us.」

I’m still haunted by the story of these two and all the different, horrible shapes that love can take. Mizi makes me feel absolutely insane by the way (which is good. Don’t fix her).
