new single “The Dream” out now on @weekinpop
11/9 - @pdxswandive w/ @sodajinxpdx @orange_fucking_vanilla

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

“The Dream” is out now with a premiere on @weekinpop , and accompanied by a beautiful set of words courtesy of Sjimon Gompers.

It is the first entry in my A Song A Week series and the start of a new era of my songwriting.

This song is dedicated to the memory of Seth Loeser @silver_morning_mgmt , my former manager, mentor, and dear friend, who arguably believed in the dream more than I ever have.

Swipe for excerpts from the premiere, and follow the links in the bio to find “The Dream” on your preferred streaming service of choice.

I’ll see you all here next week with another new one, yeah?

Short-Sighted Security is 4 years old today. This is the album that changed everything for me, and I owe a great deal of my career and my personal fortitude to it.

What’s your experience with the album? When did you first hear it, has it helped you through any hard times, and what’s your favorite track? Anything you’ve got to say about the album, sound off below, yall.

i wrote “real & fake” about BPD, or borderline personality disorder.

it’s weird, cause most friends i’ve talked to about it say something along the lines of “oh, i don’t know about that for you, you’re too self-aware and empathetic!”

to which all i can say is, spend 30 years with an unstable sense of self, constant fear of everyone leaving, chronic dissociation leading to disastrous lapses in judgement, and paranoid delusions without the help of drugs, and eventually it becomes clear you gotta work on yourself.

and for me, that means years of therapy, years of working on being kinder, less edgy, less manipulative in the face of fear, and more present in the moment, and that work has paid off a ton.

i still struggle daily with an inherently unpredictable emotional state, my self-worth feels tied to what others think of me, and i can’t maintain momentum to meet my long term goals to save my life. and sometimes i still break down and say shit i regret, still act impulsively and self-destructively at times.

my life isn’t perfect - no life is - but i think it’s one that’s worth living, worth wreaking something beautiful out of all the suffering, worth writing and expressing about. all i can hope is that it makes someone feel less alone out there.

i recently got this monstrosity of a machine, the mighty fostex 460, for $30 off facebook marketplace. everything you hear was tracked through the 460’s preamps and EQs directly into my interface. no guitar or bass amps or amp models were used.

there’s been a lot of talk about portastudio preamps in the wake of artists like mk.gee using them prominently as part of their guitar sound. the 460 has similar tonal characteristics, but matched with a 2 band parametric equalizer with a 10k high shelf/cut, 8 XLR ins with phantom power, and direct outs for each channel.

i think it sounds killer, the only issue i have with it is how huge it is!
