Grateful to be bringing the light to Behind Closed Eyes at Burning Man this year. This sixteen-foot sculpture by @spencerblamo is built from ancient Indonesian ship wood, reclaimed teak that spent lifetimes at sea in the hulls of fishing boats before being carved by hand into this majestic figure over the course of two years.

When you step inside, the first thing that hits you is the scent of aged hardwood, and you feel as if you’ve crossed into an entirely different realm. There is a wisdom in this piece as old as time, and you can feel it in your being.

My lighting work usually lives in the saturated psychedelic color spectrum, and this piece called for warm earth and fire tones. I loved playing with this constraint and the results were simply elegant. being.

I met @spencerblamo 18 years ago this week in Hailey, Idaho. We started BLAMO about a year later in Oakland, CA. It’s been a wild ride and I can’t imagine doing it with any other weirdo! I’m so thankful for our friendship and our ability to move through all the challenges of business and our sweet little monster of a company and for everyone that has supported us over the years. It’s been awhile since I shared a living space with a cat. This guy has really turned out to be the best housemate. He’s funny, snuggly, playful, mischievous and a bit of an alien monster. He loves to be in all the action and has been a loyal sidekick. I’m about to do that transpacific time space travel again and soaking in every minute I can with him before I go. We have a lot going on at the workshop these days. Dogs, cats, reptiles, amphibians, humans and all the other usual Blamo suspects. It’s been a transition to arrive back in Bali but it feels good to be here surrounded by all the creatures.

I left Bali 2 1/2 weeks ago and it feels like a lifetime ago. This was a sunrise hike in the hills that felt like Fall, now I’m experiencing real Fall and it’s a lot colder :) 🍁🍂

8,626.8 miles away from each other but that doesn’t stop some Happy FaceTime with my parents for Father’s Day.
