✨My name in books✨

Heyooo! I’m Shelby, nice to meet you! I’m an eclectic mood reader with an even more eclectic fashion sense. (Currently making this thrifted dress my entire personality).

I saw the trend of spelling your name in books and thought it’d be a neat activity. Listen y’all, I tried. Apparently I don’t have a single book that starts with the letter “Y” so you’re getting “Why” instead. 🤣 Sidebar, you can pry throwing a peace sign out of my cold, dead millennial hands. Sorry not sorry.

(S) - Storyteller by Dave Grohl This memoir is perfect because I was OBSESSED with Nirvana and Foo Fighters in my youth. I loved all the pictures in the book. The audiobook is narrated by Dave Grohl and that was really fun.
(H) - Hexed by Emily McIntire This is one of my favorite physical books that I own because of the beautiful sprayed edges. I had to convince a friend to convince *their* friend (whom I’ve never met 😅) to buy this edition in the UK and send it my way.
(E) - Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson I’m a sucker for a eye-catching title and always love a good murder mystery.
(L) - Lube Me Up With Fry Grease by Phrique If you need a hilarious bizarro splatterpunk, erotica parody…look no further. I love and will always love Phrique’s books with my entire soul.
(B) - Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver This was the first book I read of Brynne’s and I became obsessed with her. The random trigger warnings and just the way she describes things has me cackling.
(Y) - Why We Love (and Hate) Twilight by Sarah Elizabeth Gallagher I won’t even lie to you, I didn’t read Twilight when it came out. But I watched those damn movies, started the books later and now I’m unironically a rattie. Want to be my friend? Just send me a twilight meme. BWTHHYBL and TITSOAK for life.

Heyyy cutie patooties! It’s ya girl, shebbycantread aka Shelby, aka Shelbs, aka Shelbo. Thought I’d reintroduce myself here for the newer people.

Some fun (for me) facts about myself:
📚I’m a chaotic mood reader and tend to juggle multiple books of different genres at once.
💫Lately I’ve been reading and rating books based on the vibes. Made me feel something? Great. Here’s all of the stars.
🌶️I also decided to keep it positive and stopped putting my books ratings on my review posts on Instagram, only on my StoryGraph, GoodReads and Amazon reviews. If I mentioned a book on my Instagram, I liked it. I’ll still give my chili pepper spicy scale on all the sites though.
✨You’ll mainly see me reading romance, horror, mystery, thrillers, and fantasy. Usually my romances are on the cozier side, but I have been known to read dark romance, memoirs, true crime, and weird girl lit fics depending on my mood.
😈I love monster romances, paranormal romances of every variety and smut. You will find some unhinged things on this page. It is me. I am it. There ya go.
💃🏻I usually like to keep it silly and whimsical here. Memes are life and I unabashedly use a millennial emoji, GIF, and “lol” entirely too much. The real world kinda sucks right now, so this page is my fun escape.
🤠I’m an ER nurse and mom of 2. I also have a herd of animals on my farm (right now, only 2 pigs, 3 cats, and 4 dogs. But we are getting chickens soon for some pretty eggs and hubs promised me a pet mini cow, so I’m hoping he will make good on that promise asap lol).
🙃Despite being an over-sharer on the internet (I drop random lore to strangers like it’s my job), I’m actually pretty private and an extroverted introvert in real life. I love giving hugs, but also struggle with my social battery getting drained with too many irl activities.
😘I love supporting indie authors.
👽My first ever book convention will be this May (Monsterotica 2026 hell yeaaa) but I’m also kinda nervous.
👀I’ve been doing this bookstagram account for a little over a year. I still don’t know what I’m doing. by @shebbycantread

Reading is political.

Researching policies and being an informed voter is cool beans.

Please exercise your right to vote, my cutie patooties.

Hi, bye October. Honestly, I don’t know where the month went. Uhhhhh, once again I was not as productive as I wanted to be reading-wise, but what I did read this month were bangers.

Big shout out to the authors who trusted me with their ARCs this month. Also apologies, I’m behind on reviews and been in a weird headspace with books. I actually DNF’d a couple books y’all (miss fomo queen DNF’ing?! Who am I??). I’ll get there eventually with the reviews though because I neeeeed to tell you about some of these other books this month, but I’m not feeling too creative on Canva or with forming words for reviews in general. So to be continued.

Alright, thanks for reading my stream of consciousness. Kloveyoubyeee by @shebbycantread

Whyyyyyyy! Why would they make Heated Rivalry ever so slightly taller in the Game Changers series?! My eye is twitching.

Anyways just got these babies in the mail a couple days ago and they look AMAZING other than THAT mild inconvenience. Like I literally might have to make Heated Rivalry stand by itself somewhere because I can’t handle it. 😂

I was going to be like Happy Meme Monday everyone, but apparently I lost a day when I caught the plague the kids had over the weekend. Soooo uh, happy Tuesday.

Here’s a low-energy collage that represents the current vibe while I melt further into my couch. Millennials with their lack of Canva skills amiright?! Oh, just me? Haha. Alright. Well brb…soonish. by @shebbycantread

Happy Feral Friday my weirderoons! It’s been a while since I posted one of these, I’ve missed it. And happy release week to this fun new sentient object romance, twas 🤌🏻 chef’s kiss 🤌🏻

After losing her job to a fire and then her apartment to a cheating ex, Sylvie jumps at the chance for a live-in head chef position at the Twyford House estate. Magical and strange occurrences take place, especially after Sylvie makes a recipe from an antique recipe book and she finds herself face to face with a pudding-turned-man.

As a mere American, with a heavy Southern and Latine-influenced palate, I didn’t even know what the British cuisine of “bangers, mash, toad in the hole, knickerbocker glory, or spotted dick” was…but I still had a hecking good time. I absolutely adore the whimsical and silliness of Fenella J Rookery’s books because I know I’ll get some laughs, some puns, and some unique spice. Like wdym our FMC had spicy time with a floating toffee ween while in a bath?! I’m dying. by @shebbycantread

Dr. Lila Rhodes is back to investigate a paranormal occurrence, this time in Sleepy Hollow. Kat, a small town mortician, has kept to herself after the tragic death of her high school best friend, no longer attempting to form relationships with the living and busying herself with the family business. At the urging of her mom and the spirits, she attends a speed dating event and instantly connects with a man named Brom. Everything is going well until Halloween night, when the perfect Brom ghosts her and is nowhere to be found.

E.M. Ashwood does such a good job with the juxtaposition of serious topics with humor, while giving the reader a strong storyline and character development in such a short novella. This is technically book 3.5 of the “Mating Habits of North American Cryptids” series and while it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone, there is a prologue and epilogue with Dr. Lila Rhodes (from book 1) and mention of characters for the previous books. I know I always say this with her books, but this series is such a vibe; the dialogue and way the author describes things always make me chuckle. I love her characters so much. This was a fun, fast-paced spooky season romp with some of my favorite microtropes.

Today’s hyper-fixation is brought to you by the @wickermovie and the idea that I actually know how to freehand with fabric markers 😂 (plot twist: I don’t. They’re so hard to use).

Who’s going to see the movie with me??
