One week from tonight, Elden Kelly, Clinton Patterson, and I bring our new trio to @roulette_intermedium in Brooklyn, featured in a concert series curated by James Brandon Lewis, and we’re sharing the bill with his trio. James is an old friend of Clinton’s and mine from our CalArts days. We were students together, finding our voices, and now he’s one of the most celebrated saxophonists in jazz and creative music. This night feels like a reunion years in the making, and I’m so grateful!

Tues, Sept 29 · 8 pm · Roulette, Brooklyn
Free livestream for everyone outside NYC. Link in bio.

Sheela Bringi & Elden Kelly in Concert: World Strings, Rāga & Song

Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Sheela Bringi and guitar virtuoso Elden Kelly make music that moves freely between worlds — Indian classical rāga, jazz-inspired improvisation, folk lyricism, and original soul-stirring songs. Think echoes of Alice Coltrane’s devotional harp-and-rāga sound and the guitar fire of John McLaughlin in Shakti — a transcendent experience for listeners with open ears and hearts.

A pioneer of the “rāga harp,” Sheela accompanies her own voice on a 36-string harp tuned to Indian rāgas, singing in Hindi, Sanskrit, and Kannada — reimagined songs from the motherland. Her ethereal, Hindustani-inflected vocals and bansuri — shaped by her training under bansuri legend G.S. Sachdev — meet Elden’s haunting voice and a guitar language that draws on flamenco, jazz, blues, and Indian traditions.

Sheela and Elden are based in Colorado and currently on tour in New York — they are delighted to perform at Shakti Yoga on Saturday October 10 at 7pm
