but doing it for the first time can be a little scary…

Listen - When I first got divorced, I decided I wasn’t going to let being single or not having someone to travel with stop me from making epic memories with my daughter.

So I learned how to travel solo with her.

And honestly, some of our best memories have come from hopping in the car, chasing waterfalls, hiking new trails and seeing places we’ve never seen before.

But I learned pretty quickly that wanting to go is the easy part.

Feeling confident and safe enough to actually go is different.

These are the simple non-negotiables that make traveling and hiking solo with a kid feel a whole lot easier for me. 🙌🏽

I took a 5 hour solo trip with my kiddo from northern Virginia to Finger Lakes New York and I cannot stop thinking about it!

How to Spend 3 days in Finger lakes New York Day 1:

📌Make Ithaca New York Home base
🚗5 hours from Northern Virginia & DC, 7 hours from Richmond

Day 1:
📍 Taughannock Falls State Park
💦 Taller than Niagara Falls
🥾 About 1 mile to the waterfall
🚗 $10 parking
🚻 Bathrooms on site

The hike is easy, kid-friendly, and the waterfall is incredible. We sat here forever just taking it in.

🥪 Lunch: Glenwood Pines
About 10 minutes away and such a good little hole-in-the-wall spot. You can also pack lunch and eat near the falls.

📍 Ithaca Falls
💦 150-foot waterfall
🚗 Free parking
🥾 Short walk
💰 Free

It’s literally right in the middle of the city, and we dipped our feet in the water and watched people fishing.

The Finger Lakes genuinely feels like a dream, and I still can’t believe it isn’t packed.

📌 Solo mom tip:
If you’re newer to road trips with kids, I’d recommend this one. The drive from Northern Virginia is manageable, the stops are easy to access, and there’s a perfect balance of adventure + relaxation.

Stay in Ithaca, NY as your home base because you’ll have easy access to so many waterfalls.

And this was only Day 1. 👀

Me and my 8-year- old took a 4-hour road trip to visit Fort Monroe in Hampton, Virginia, and @visitvirginia really has some of the most incredible overlooked history hiding in plain sight.

✔️ As a solo mom, I felt safe exploring Fort Monroe and the beach with my daughter

✔️ Fort Monroe is a former military installation, but the historic grounds are open to the public and we did not need military ID to enter

✔️ Add Fort Monroe to a Hampton or Norfolk weekend road trip

📌 My opinion: Watching my daughter freely play on a beach connected to so much American history is something I’ll never forget.

Howl-o-Scream?! 10/10 recommend🙌🏽

As a solo mom I love making epic memories with my kiddo, and Howl-o-Scream at gardens in Williamsburg was a full 10/10!

It’s like a giant fall festival during the day and then. Haunted theme park at night

Listen! I drove 7 hours with my kiddo from Virginia and our Smoky Mountain Tennessee road trip was incredible!

I could not believe this waterfall is in Gatlinburg just 20 minutes from the crowded strip!

📍Grotto Falls Trail Guide & Logistics
🥾3.2 miles round trip (including walk to and from parking)
💵 Free
📌Recommended for kids 5 and up as long as they are comfortable walking 3 miles (we took a break to rest our legs before coming back)

- Grotto Falls is doable for adults and kids, and as a solo mom I felt super safe by going in the morning.

🚫Be warned, this is on the roaring fork motor trail which is a one way road for MILES so don’t pass the parking lot or you will have to start all the way back over.

Busch gardens in Williamsburg and their howl-o-scream event was soooo epic.

Roller coasters, spooky rides, scare actors, and all.

We drove 3 hours from northern Virginia to Busch garden in Williamsburg Virginia

Halloween at Busch gardens was incredible.

Perfect for solo moms and kids plus adult level adventure.

How are we doing out there ladies? ❤️🙌🏽

For me it’s like the life I didn’t plan is better than I could imagine …

6 Years on this journey of being the only adult packing the car and I must say I have zero regrets.

I had all the dreams of being married and traveling the world with a husband, kids, and a Yorkie -

Family hikes and Christmas vacations, all the things.

But God had other plans.

And as a single mom, traveling solo with my kiddo has been the absolute best part of my life.

The adventures we share, the trips we take, the memories we make - make me incredibly grateful and overwhelmed with joy.

Cheers to taking the trip going anyway 🙌🏽

Listen! As a solo mom, sometimes I just need some leaves and quiet and this fall hike in Virginia is gave me exactly that.

It is located in northern Virginia about an hour from DC and 2 from Richmond.

It feels like a walk through Scotland and it is very safe and easy to do solo or with kids.

I was surprised at how uncrowded it was on. Friday.

😅10/10 - Nobody tells you about this in Tennessee!

And we took a 6 hour road trip from northern virginia to Tennessee go Zorbing and it was 100% worth it!

You jump in a giant hamster ball with water and rolling down the side of a mountain while you slide around on the inside 😂

And Pigeon Forge Tennessee is the ONLY place you can go Zorbing in the USA

BEFORE YOU BOOK YOUR TICKET
- get the GoPro ticket package so you can record your videos

-You can’t take any loose items in the ball or on the bus

-purchase at least two rolls per person!

- weight limit is 235 pounds :)

or doing anything for that matter!

I promised myself that I would not to let a relationship status stop me from living the life I want.

And pulling off a solo trip with your kids is the best feeling in the world!

After 6 years traveling solo with my daughter- showing her unique places to visit, hiking, road trips, and all type of adventures honestly makes my heart so full!

And im making as memories of the with her as I can while she still thinks I’m cool 😎 😅
