This photoshoot (๐Ÿ“ธ: @ibrakim.a) in the jungles of The Philippines, wearing the koto of my mother when she came to the Netherlands, helped me tap into that energy. Also attending the annual Keti Koti ceremony made me realize something: As a young woman with Surinamese roots, itโ€™s important to learn about my ancestors so I can better understand who I am and how I can carry that knowledge into the future. But there is something Iโ€™m struggling withโ€ฆ (swipe to read more โ†’) ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐ง๐ญ โ›“๏ธโ€๐Ÿ’ฅ It is my dream to help South America and Africa flourish once again. But because I was never taught my mother tongue, Sranan Tongo, I already felt like I was starting 2โ€“0 behind ๐Ÿ˜… Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m hosting my very first Sranan Tongo course this September/October in collaboration with @makersopzuid. Not only will we dive into the language, but weโ€™ll also explore the rich history of Suriname and listen to beautiful Anansi tories. If you feel this, I have some good news for you! Last weekend, while hiking through some of Englandโ€™s most beautiful landscapes, I could feel that my mind and soul are ready for the next step. Iโ€™ve been off the grid for a while now, and honestly, Iโ€™ve grown to love the solitude that comes with it. Grinding for so long, back to back without breaks, made me realize it was time to slow down and reflect on everything thatโ€™s happened over the past few years. Iโ€™ve had my rest now and when Iโ€™m ready, Iโ€™ll take my time to fill you in on all the crazy side quests Iโ€™ve encountered along the way.
