Ok, bit of an exaggeration, but you get the idea…

I’ve been pretty absent from here for a long time. Mostly because life has been complicated, bloody hard and full of enormous highs and lows that I haven’t particularly wanted to share. Showing up “authentically” is tricky when the reality isn’t terribly Instagrammable - and I’m fairly sure nobody opens this app hoping for an endless stream of poor me. So instead, I’ve protected my privacy, got on with it and occasionally popped up to share the good bits. Yesterday apparently demonstrated the flaw in that strategy 😂. I posted myself having a fabulous time on a yacht in Ibiza and people left in their droves. So, for those of you who stayed, a little balance.

Yacht life is very much NOT my real life.

The last few years have mostly involved rebuilding from scratch. Studying hard for a completely new career. Raising two brilliant boys alone. Economising & selling things. Selling my car and watching most of the lovely “stuff” I accumulated over the years disappear and learning, rather unexpectedly, how little any of it actually matters.

And then, occasionally, I have incredibly generous friends who invite me somewhere wonderful. I get over the inevitable guilt about going without my boys, escape reality for a few days, drink something cold somewhere beautiful and breathe. Ibiza was one of those moments.

This isn’t a poor me post either. Quite the opposite. I feel immensely lucky. Life at the moment is messy, uncertain, exciting, frightening, sometimes fabulous and sometimes really fucking hard. The yacht was real. It just wasn’t the whole story.

And perhaps that’s the bit of Instagram we all need to remember. There’s always another reality that rarely makes it to the glossy images. ❤️ by @shedreamsofgucci

Back from a glorious few days sailing in the Balearics… we sailed from Mallorca to Ibiza (to Formentera, back to Ibiza and back ro Mallorca!) and were joined by a huge pod of dolphins which was just incredible. Experienced the very hectic side of Ibiza at USHUAÏA seeing @davidguetta and then on to @pachaofficial ( just to experience it really!!). Ticked off and I’m definitely too old and boring to do it again (much too hectic and busy for my increasingly introverted ways!!) but do fancy @pikesibiza next time, so maybe I’m not ready for pipe and slippers quite yet!! Here I am, back in my comfort zone with my fave @tarquinsgin (the Mexican zest and salt one is 👌🏼) after yet more cocktails @elements.ibiza moored off Cala Benirràs with Cap Bernat behind me … magical 💫

Old skool OOTD because I finally got my hands on this dress on @vinted BNWT - result. I did my roots and curled my hair and put my make up on … and all together, it’s all a small miracle of achievement these days.

Croatia you were divine.

Top tips/highlights if you’re heading there or thinking of it:

We spent three nights in Split before swapping land for sea and heading to the islands by yacht. Split was ok but nothing compared to Hvar and the Pakleni Islands. First overnight stop was Jelsa on Hvar where we ate at @meandmrsjonesjelsa (fab but MUST book), then on to Starigrad which we loved - lovely meal @zori.timeless in the harbour (you spoiled us with the teranino!) and gorgeous streets to wander with little boutiques. Next we sailed to the Pakleni Islands and ate ashore at @totospalmizana (fabulous and great service). Onto Hvar and dinner @restaurantgarifulhvar (reputedly the best restaurant in Croatia). Having said all that our chef Mirko was incredible so staying on the boat for several meals was no chore!! Hvar Town is very busy and has quite a vibrant, party atmosphere- head to smaller enclaves for a more intimate Dalmatian experience….

Another post to come on Hvar Town where we found a gem of a hotel and a must visit restaurant where we finished up the trip!

General tips…. Take sea shoes, you’ll need them for the beaches. It’s more expensive than you might think, joining the Euro has driven prices up but service and general standards are probably slightly lower than Italy for example. The water though … oh the water. Just as good as it looks. Five star hotels are not all born equal, but that’s the case everywhere 😉

Screenshots I took 3.5 years ago, my marriage & my life falling apart spectacularly and hoping that one day I might relate.
You never think it’ll happen to you, and when it did, it exceeded anything I could have imagined. I knew that allowing the grass to grown beneath the Herculean task that lay ahead was not an option. Creating a new life for myself & my boys, financially securing our futures & embarking on a new career in midlife that felt truly me became my mission.
6 months later I returned to education after 26y, a few courses to begin with & then a massive step back to uni, embarking on a Master’s in psychodynamic psychotherapy. What followed has been beyond tough but amazing: intense study, huge personal growth & a year of clinical hours working with the most marginalised in society … all whilst personally navigating a v painful divorce, running on empty, financially & mentally, keeping home, working where I could & single-handedly supporting two amazing boys through major personal & educational milestones. Alone.
This week was the end of another era. My second Goldsmith’s journey. A Master’s at 50, perimenopause kicking my arse, & I am proud of myself to have not only got through it but to have excelled. ‘I am a psychotherapist’. Words I never imagined.
Life now is v different. The divorce got done, the experience & the relationships forged with my all female incredible legal team meant I’m also thrilled to be working with @luxfamilylaw helping people navigate the process with more emotional support, and foresight, than I had. Material things have largely been sacrificed to the Vinted Gods to pay the bills. I don’t have new things to show you & so I have felt unsure about how to show up here authentically. Love has serendipitously come knocking again, not via an app, but from a glorious second chance. Everything really does happen for a reason & it’s never too late. It’s in the darkest moments that we find our greatest strengths. I hope I can help others find their way out of pain or uncertainty & into the light. The journey isn’t always easy but when you find your way out of the storm, you see the rainbow in technicolour ❤️🌈 🙏🏼 by @shedreamsofgucci
