if you ever see my play live you’ll be sure to hear this Lucinda Williams tune 🩶 it more meaningful than I can say, and in this season of life I reflect on the gift that my father gave me that is my love for Lucinda and her work. Every time we see her live together he is brought to tears by her voice, her storytelling, and what I can only assume is the nostalgia that one feels when they can see the years of their own life reflected back in the songs that have carried them through. I remember sitting in the car on long rides falling asleep to her voice, his own chiming in.

a few years ago I read Lucinda’s memoir, Don’t Tell Anybody The Secrets I Told You, where I learned about the complicated relationship she had with her own poet father. in Car Wheels On A Gravel Road she too sits in the backseat of a car unsure of what would lie ahead.

I love you Lucinda, thank you for being a brilliant poet and sharing your life through song affecting and inspiring many generations, in this a case a father and daughter! 🥹
