Letting go is hard. Sometimes it feels impossible.

No matter what you TRY, it still lingers—often much longer than you ever anticipated. And sometimes, the harder you try to let go, the harder it gets.

Sound familiar?

I’ve always had a difficult time letting go of people, my ideals, my expectations of how things should be, my past… you name it. It takes me longer than I’d like to finally release something.

TBH, it’s annoying. 🤣

But I’ve realized part of the reason I struggle with letting go is also something I really love about myself: I feel deeply. Emotionally and intuitively.

Sure, life might be easier if I didn’t feel so much. But without all those feelings, I wouldn’t be who I am.

Passionate. Compassionate. Empathetic. Enthusiastic. Wild. Introspective. Adventurous. A creative thinker, artist and writer.

I get to experience some of the greatest gifts in life because I feel so deeply.

Which means I get to feel the hard stuff deeply, too.

What I’ve learned, though, is that I can’t force myself to stop feeling something. I can’t think my way into letting go. In fact, the more attention I give to getting rid of a feeling, the more I seem to keep it alive.

Eventually, I have to stop trying so damn hard to let go—and start living.

Inner work matters. Reflection matters. Feeling it matters.

But so does getting up and building your life.

Taking care of your health. Showing up for your career. Being present with your people. Moving. Trying something new. Laughing. Creating. Making plans. Having experiences that have absolutely nothing to do with the thing you’re trying so desperately to release.

That is growth, too.

And somewhere in the middle of all that living, you realize you haven’t thought about it quite as much.

And then a little less.

Until one day, your heart and your mind finally catch up with the life you’ve already been building.

Maybe letting go isn’t something we do.

Maybe it’s something that happens while we’re busy living.

Follow @sheglows.on and comment SUBSTACK and I’ll be sure to send you this weeks essay on Letting Go.

I think sometimes we hold ourselves hostage to dreams we had when we were different people.

We decide what something is supposed to look like, and when it no longer fits, we assume we failed.

At least, that is how I felt this last month. And it wasn’t just about this account.

I genuinely felt like I was failing everywhere.

Emotionally. Mentally. Physically. Financially. Professionally. Romantically.

And of course, I always feel like I’m failing my daughter in big or small ways.

It was a very difficult past month of intense inner scrutiny. An emotional bottom you might say.

When I imagined She Glows On eight years ago, I imagined telling the story of everything I had survived. And there is a lot of story there.

But somewhere along the way,
living became the more interesting story.

The life I’m creating became more interesting.

I AM MORE INTERESTING.

I still believe there is enormous value in telling the truth about the hard things. I’ll tell those stories. I’ll write about what they taught me, what I got wrong, what I’d do differently, and what I know now that I desperately wish I’d known then.

But I don’t want to wake up every morning asking myself which painful chapter of my life I can turn into content.

That isn’t where I live anymore.

I want to talk about the life that came after.

Starting over. Raising a kid. Building a business. Dating. Friendship. Getting older. Getting dressed. Making a home. Taking risks. Making mistakes. Changing my mind. Laughing at myself. Falling apart occasionally. Putting myself back together.

All of it.

Because maybe glowing on isn’t about arriving at some beautifully healed version of yourself.

Maybe it’s just continuing to become her.

And letting yourself change the dream along the way. ✨ by @sheglows.on

Knowing how to do things as a self-sufficient woman is hot!

As I’m packing for my move to LA in a few days, a moving job I’ve done countless times by myself, I’ve become aware of how truly capable I am.

When you’ve been forced to survive, it’s inevitable to become self-sufficient. You don’t have a choice. I used to resent that everything fell on me.

But now - it’s just a way of life. Ain’t no thang.

This last month, I decided to move.
Found an apartment.
Got my daughter into a private school.
Continued to work.
Travelled to LA multiple times.
Got the move scheduled and all that comes with it.
While also being able to spend time with friends.

But I will say, just because I am capable of doing it on my own, doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to have a partner one day who could help take that full burden off my shoulders.

Like killing spiders!

Raise a glass to the single moms who are doing it! šŸ„‚

What started out as a simple Substack essay about my thoughts and feelings on moving back to LA, actually turned out to be a deep dive into the evolution of my womanhood through trauma, grief, and the journey to overcome both these past 15 years.

It was hugely cathartic for me — and empowering to revisit what I’ve gone through and I have deep empathy for the woman I once was who went through it all. I wish I could embrace her and tell her life will go on. That in time, though she will never forget, she will eventually be OK.

There is a lot of tragedy within this story, but it is also the story of a woman who stopped at nothing despite the neverending setbacks to climb out of the darkness.

A story of the light beginning to shine bright on her.

On me.

I’ve included a few excerpts from my article. If you want to read more, comment SUBSTACK and I’ll send you the link.

People rarely admit that their beautiful comeback story began with anger and resentment.

No one is reinventing themselves when everything is peaches ’n cream. Sometimes the motivation is simply: I’ll show them.

At least it was for me.

After my separation, I went almost a year without support while my income plunged 60% during COVID.

I had been controlled for so long in my marriage that I’d lost myself. Covering up the abuse and the benders. Making excuses. Bending and twisting myself to keep someone else happy.

When I finally left, our safety relied on me being vigilant. That vigilance was fueled by anxiety and rage.

Then he died, and protecting my daughter’s interests in his estate turned that rage into something relentless.

I lived there for years.

And for a while, I needed it.

It fueled the estate battle. My business. My healing. Learning to stop people-pleasing. Letting go of what no longer served me.

But eventually, it began eating away at my spirit.

I gained 20 pounds. There was no light in my eyes. My smiles were fake. I barely recognized myself.

All I wanted was to come back strong and prove that everything we’d been through couldn’t bring me down.

I WOULD SHOW THEM.

Until I realized my rage wasn’t working for me anymore.

I would never find the peace and abundance I wanted while still living my life concerned about THEM.

In Sept ā€˜25, I prayed to God to release me from it.

And slowly, SHOW THEM became SHOW ME.

I took care of my body and mind. Fell in love with yoga again. Took adventures. Started dating. Showed up for my friends and family.

I started showing up for ME.

I started this account. A Substack. Golf. I opened myself to new people, new love, new possibilities and futures I hadn’t considered.

I started loving myself. And loving my life, even when it’s hard AF.

Maybe the real comeback isn’t proving they couldn’t break you.

Maybe it’s letting go of what fueled the rage long enough to discover who you are without it.

It’s okay if anger gets you off the floor. But we aren’t meant to build a home there.

Eventually, ā€œI’ll show themā€ becomes ā€œI’ll show me.ā€

And somewhere along the way, your comeback story becomes a love storyā¤ļø by @sheglows.on

We are taught to always be the good girl. The classy girl. The sophisticated girl. The sweet girl.

And while we are also taught to be confident and take charge, there is this underlying theme that we shouldn’t be too much.

Not too small, but not too big.

Not too quiet, but not too loud.

Be nurturing and feeling oriented, but don’t be too emotional or have too many feelings.

Be assertive, but also be laid back.

Does that sound familiar to you?

I have noticed that once a woman hits her 40s, it’s as though the veil has been lifted and women open their eyes to what they actually want. To what they actually have.

Like a lightbulb goes off and they say to themselves, ā€œUmmm what is this life I am living? Am I happy? Am I fulfilled? Do I have purpose? Do I love and feel loved? How have I contributed to the world?ā€

The past ten years I have gone through some gnarly life experiences. Frankly, it never really let up until 2025. Work started to feel steady, and I finally felt a slight weight being lifted.

But my daughter and I have been going through some changes the past several months, and it’s not been easy. It’s caused me to really reflect on my life and see where I still do things to please people. People I know and people I don’t even know.

Where I abandon myself because I think I ā€œshouldā€ be doing this or that.

And I realized, I just don’t want to live by the ā€œrulesā€ anymore. I want to think outside the box, explore my desires, my career, my world view.

I want to be a savage when it comes to embodying myself and living this life.

I’m also an Aquarius so I’ve always been a bit wacky, so buckle up, because the wack is comin’ in HOT!

And despite the uncertainty, I have never been more at peace with things being absolutely unknown.

Maybe that’s what being savage is all about!

And the wildest part is that I’m still learning. I’m still becoming.

Six years ago, I thought the goal was to survive what was happening and somehow find my way back to the woman I had been.

Nope. That is not the point.

I’ve learned that starting over doesn’t mean starting from scratch. That loving someone doesn’t always mean staying. That some people can matter deeply and still not be meant to stay forever. That being misunderstood doesn’t make me wrong. And that courage rarely feels courageous while you’re actually doing it.

And just to be clear—I absolutely do not have it all together.

Life still ebbs and flows. There are things I’m struggling with right now. I’m still figuring out what’s next in my design business, moving back to Santa Monica, working toward feeling financially secure again, navigating relationships and friendships, and raising a kid while trying to build something new. Some days I feel incredibly grounded. Other days I am exhausted and hugely humbled where I currently stand at 47 years old as a single mom.

Maybe that’s the part of ā€œbecomingā€ I understand differently now.

I don’t think becoming means eventually arriving at some perfectly healed, completely secure version of myself where nothing is hard anymore.

I think it means knowing that hard things can happen—and trusting myself to figure out what to do next.

I still get scared. I still hold on too long sometimes. I still care what people think more than I’d like to admit. I still have plenty to work on.

But I trust myself more than I ever have.

And I think the woman I was six years ago—the one who had absolutely no idea how she was going to do any of this—would look at me now and think:

Damn. We’re no where near done yet, but we are doing alright. Get after it girl!

Turns out that the very things that make you beautiful have very little to do with how you look on the outside šŸ¤

Self-worth and health boundaries creates inner peace and therefore more flourishing relationships which is calming and that makes you GLOW!

You know those people who just magnetize you to them? Who put you at ease?

I think they can do that because they embody and value all these qualities. And they are SO ATTRACTIVE. Their aura radiates peace and acceptance.

I’m aiming high for this right now! by @sheglows.on

I think the hardest the thing about going through super difficult situations is losing one’s identity.

Marriage, divorce, parenthood, death, career pivots, empty nesting, retirement…

Everything seems to be taken over by responsibilities, emotions, tasks, and the handling of it all. Either you are able to compartmentalize your emotions to deal or you feel them all. Every person deals with hardship differently.

What I do know, through my own experience and those of others I know, you start to feel lost. Sometimes very lost. And once you start to emerge from this stage of life, you are changed.

It is like an existential soul crisis.

I was so concerned that the very things I loved about myself were gone forever when I was in the thick of divorce, a custody battle and then his death.

When all the BS came at me.

And I actually grieved the woman I used to be. She was so joyful and energetic and enthusiastic and funny and spontaneous. Those parts of myself laid dormant for years.

I truly thought I was gone. I had no idea who I was anymore. NONE.

And that was an added layer of grief.

It was only recently that I was inspired to start experiencing her again. I started to experience laughter and excitement through work and friendships. I started to feel like a sexy and desirable woman again after starting to date. I started to feel bold in my dreams and career again.

I think we hope that it will all come back to us at once. When in fact it slowly starts to seep into our daily life without notice….

Until one day, you start to remember her. You start to feel like her.

And then you realize, oh my gosh, you are her…. AGAIN.

All those years of hard work, experiences, therapy, moon circles, women’s groups, advocacy groups, hobbies, meditation, reiki, sound baths, breath work, church, crystal shops, retreats, and clubs led you to this moment.

What seemed like small steps was actually you taking a fierce stand to find the woman who got lost in it all.

If you have found her again…. Amazing.

But if you’re still looking….. She’s in there. I promise.

And when all else fails, nothing that a little retail therapy by @sheglows.on
