🌱 Mangelwurzel - What is it?! 🌱Let’s talk about the veg that sounds like it fell out of a Harry Potter book but is, in fact, a total rockstar root crop: the mangelwurzel! This glorious heirloom is like the quirky cousin of beetroot and sugar beet—massive, vibrant, and packed with history. Traditionally grown for livestock feed, it’s making a comeback in kitchen gardens for its incredible versatility. Eat it roasted, mashed, or even juiced if you’re feeling adventurous. The greens? Also edible. 💚Fun fact: In the 19th century, mangelwurzel-growing contests were a thing—think giant veg showdowns! 🥇 And did I mention it stores like a dream, making it a winter staple for both humans and animals! If you’re looking for a veggie that’s as much a conversation starter as it is a crop, the mangelwurzel is your new best friend. by @shegrowsveg

Have you ever tried this hack for growing carrots? Carrot seeds have notoriously poor germination if they dry out after sowing which can be a real problem in warmer dryer months like June. This method hydrates the seeds and most importantly keeps them moist even in hot weather to give you much better success rates. You can get a whole rainbow of different carrot seeds from @shegrowsveg and remember that @homegrown_thepod listeners get 20% off their first order with code HOMEGROWNFor more tips and tricks to get your garden thriving this summer check out our Podcast Home Grown With Martha and Jamie wherever you get your podcasts or subscribe on YouTube. And a big thank you to the brilliant @inthecottagegarden for filming this for us! #carrots #homegrown #podcast #gardening #growyourown by @shegrowsveg

Are your tomatoes lying to you? They look fine. They're growing. Everything seems okay. But if you haven't started pruning, feeding, and potting on yet, they're quietly running out of road. Here's what June actually needs from you:🌱 Prune your sideshoots (those little shoots appearing in the 'V' between the stem and a branch). Left unchecked, they'll become whole new plants competing for the same energy. Snap them off while they're small (our secateurs make quick, clean work of the bigger ones) and your plant redirects everything into fruit.🍅 Start feeding: once the first flowers appear, your tomatoes need potassium to set fruit properly. A weekly dose of our 100% natural tomato feed isn't optional at this point. It's the difference between a decent harvest and a great one.🪴 Pot them on: if your plant's roots are hitting the sides of the pot, it's already stressed. Move it up a size and give it room to do its thing. Cramped roots = stunted growth = fewer tomatoes on your plate.None of this takes long. But leave it another few weeks and you'll be playing catch-up all summer.Save this for your next garden check-in and shop the tomato feed in our stories 🌿 by @shegrowsveg

Courgettes, but not as you know them. The mighty courgette is one of the most grown vegetables in the UK, but somehow almost everyone is growing the same one. These three heirlooms are here to fix that. They have been grown for generations, look completely unlike anything you'd find in a supermarket, and you can sow them all direct while the soil's warm.🥒 Courgette White Custard (NEW)🥒 Courgette Jaune et Vert🥒 Courgette PineappleDespite looking a little crazy, all three taste just like a regular heirloom courgette.Sowing window: April to JuneHead to our stories to get your hands on the seeds 🌱 by @shegrowsveg
